It was going to be more when Colin was involved. reading this news saddens me since i was really looking forward to 10 volumes altogether being released as stated at the beginning of all this. (does this make me a SELFISH xtc fan?) oh well, i guess eight volumes is better than none at all, eh? andy's doing an excellent job in cleaning these demos up and making them more "presentable" to us so i do thank him for that. can't wait for the final two volumes then ........ ********** "Belief makes things real ..." ~ Gavin DeGraw

Beautiful stuff - two brothers, one on a grand piano, the other on guitar. Spiralling, baroque, heart-explodingly beautiful songs. I detected a bit of an XTC influence, and one of the songs sounded vaguely familiar. Of course, today "The Affiliated" by The Dukes comes up on my Ipod shuffle, and I realise the familiar song was a radical (and absolutely gorgeous) reworking of the above. Anyway, they had an album out a while back that's well worth investigating. http://www.starsinbattledress.com http://freefrench.net Both worth investigating, I'd say. -- Anthony Chapman

And the weird thing for me is, the farther away XTC seem(s) to get from actually presenting themselves to the public, the more frequently they seem to be in everybody's thoughts/words at the moment. It's almost incredible -- I can't recall reading this much about the group since the release of AV1! Today's sighting: In the German edition of "Rolling Stone", there is a short article (typical for the front end of the magazine) on a new down-under group called "The Disassociatives" (I believe -- what about it, Porl, Dunks, Andrew, others?) entitled "XTC down under". In the article, they claim the sound of the new group is reminiscent of our boys'. Well, work beckons. Au revoir! - Jeff

I think not, et vous? I'd honestly like your opionions on this... GOing2cthe movie (if it ever coimes out in France), don device

It brought home to me (not for the first time, but curiously strongly) the reget of never being able to see them live: Andy seems about halfway trough to accrellerate, to flirt with pitch and get ahead of the rhythm, always staying just this side of a f..k up (ecxusez-moi mon francais, mais il est sans doute mieux que le votre!), when he makes it all pay off boldly at the end of the 'oh, oh oh's.. listen and see if you don't agree... ON recordings (especially the 2 most recent, even 3, I'd say (flame away) he's too controlled... We never have that exciting feeeling of wondering if he's going to lose control because, of course, he never does or will... which may be re&assuring for some, but i, for one, regret that malicious spark... xo, don device

Message-ID: <fc.00870b4a002e61d300870b4a002e61d3.2e61f1@rectoryschool.org> Gang, There's a very surprising mention of XTC in the "Music You Should Hear" section of Amazon.com's website. Tears for Fears' Roland Orzabal picks "Black Sea" as one of the wlbums we should hear and says this: "I used to know someone who worked for an Italian record company and in a thick Russian/Italian accent, he would declare that Andy Partridge is a genius. I think he may have had a point." Yes, he may have! On another note, one of my students handed me his iPod yesterday. "Mr. Gott, you know how I usually listen to music when I study because it helps me to concentrate?" he asked. "Sure," I replied. "But it doesn't look like you've gotten anything done." "I was listening to this song," he said, "and I can't concentrate because it's so good. I mean, I just keep playing it over and over again." I put on his headphones and he pushed play. The song was "Easter Theatre." There's hope for the "Z Generation" yet! -Ben -- Benjamin Gott Departments of English & Reading Assistant Director of Admissions http://www.rectoryschool.org

Message-ID: <ce448d53e106e1e8e485bccb2072982e@andy2000.org> Hey all- The weekly "New Releases" e-mail from Norcross, Ga.'s Murmur Music Gallery cd store lists a new XTC compilation for release on May 3. According to the e-mail, it's called "Working Overtime" and it's a compilation of "early singles." That's all it says. I've never heard of it and five minutes of frantic Googling hasn't turned up any details about it either. I'd call the record store, but it's 9:30P. Has anyone heard of it? Are there any rarities on it? Andy http://www.andy2000.org
