They were providing support for an Aussie band who were currently doing their national tour. My mate (who happens to be the entertainment editor for one of the big newspapers here) had free tickets to the before-concert party and we were both big fans of the PDY album. Dogs Die unfortunately weren't there (as promised) because they were doing their soundcheck. After quite a few free beers we went off to the concert and got into the special 'press' area, enjoyed Dogs Die play live etc and and a few more free beers. And then Craig popped into this special 'press' area. We talked for a hell of a long time actually, ended up going to the after-concert party with the band, and ended up back in their hotel room drinking whiskey and talking about Peter Jackson's interpretation of Lord Of The Rings with Craig and Ruth. As for XTC, at this point in time Craig had not heard a lot of XTC at all, and had been quite surprised at all the Partridge vocal comparisons. (He had only just started listening to them to see what all the fuss about was). It sounds like he's been doing a lot of listening since though from Steven's post. Completely off-topic, but not far musically, people might also want to check out Kaiser Chiefs, another English band riding (or creating) the resurgent wave of Brit Indie/Pop. (Mention in same breath as Dogs Die, Futureheads, Bloc Party etc). I'm loving their album so far. Paul Haines

My wife and I are thinking of making a pilgrimage to Swindon (to see some trains) this summer. Any suggestions/ideas re places to stay, things to see, local (famous) people to bend an elbow with? We are a stupidly happy couple looking to enjoy Swindon for a day or two. Thanks Chris and Iris

Greetings John, XTC only played the Hollywood Palladium once, in 81 on April 4th, opening acts were the Wall of Voodoo and someone named Hazel O'Conner. This tour was supporting the Black Sea album which came out in 1980 of course but Helicopter was often played late in the encore on this tour so it could still be the one you are thinking of. Every oterh time XTC played in Cali they played in different venues than the Palladium usually smaller clubs like the UC Davis coffee house and the Whiskey. They would have played the palladium a second time on April 4th 1982 (Same day how weird is that?) but Andy quit before the San Diego show at the California Theatre the night before and the Palladium show never happened. Also from what I remember U2 never opened for XTC on any of their tours. Cheers and glad you got to see them at all, you are lucky. Mole

Best known for "Laugh, Laugh" and "Just a Little". Also, for any fans of The Byrds their 1973 reunion album is now available on CD. Until Mr. Partridge and Mr. Moulding get new stuff out, these vintage albums might hold you over.

As far as I know there are only going to be two more volumes of Fuzzy Warbles. It was going to be more when Colin was involved.
