#62: Dear God.

I was really shocked to see that they were even included. There must
be an XTC fan on the inside who put them on the list, since it is hard
to fathom what mainstream music top 10 list Dear God actually made,
although I guess it was Billboard's #1 video in 1987 that must have
qualified them.

Back to major lurk mode.<<

"Dear God" was nominated for a couple of MTV awards if I recall correctly
and was pretty popular in the top 100 countdown back in the day.

Art'noon one and all

Just a quick de-lurk to advise that the latest edition of 'The Word'
magazine has an article all about the Dukes, to coincide with the
forthcoming remasters or whatever they are.

Little that the avid fan won't already know, but nice to see they didn't
just ask Andy to comment, but seemingly spoke to all four and Mr Leckie
himself.

Roll on 2012 and my next post!

Smudge out.

Hi, everyone:

I just excitedly ordered my new copies of "25 O'Clock" and "Psonic
Psunspot." As I'm sure someone else will post, you can buy them
through the APE store. With my fingers crossed that the mastering
wasn't done as loudly as was the mastering by Virgin, I look forward
to my goodies arriving in the mail.

News from Dave Gregory, care of Guitargonauts /
http://www.guitargonauts.info/ :

"We've been having so much fun rehearsing that I feel now is the time to
officially introduce my fab new band the TIN SPIRITS, whom you can
actually hear LIVE at ye olde Riffs Bar at Greatfield, near Swindon, on
Thursday May 14th 2009.

"We'll be playing a mixture of covers of rock obscurities, prog classics
and maybe a few XTC songs into the bargain. All guitars, all of the
time; keyboards are RIGHT OUT.

"Admission? A lousy three quid. Are we kidding?? No! We wants to be
rockin' a full house this time...

"So whether you come to cheer us on or jeer at our efforts, an evening's
entertainment is guaranteed for all.

"See yez down Riffs, then."

So, all ye within striking distance, hie yourselves down to 26
Greatfield, Swindon on 2009-05-14. This is a big deal! Sure wish I could
be there... Those who do make it, please take a few photos and if you
can get any decent video snippets, let me know; maybe they can be linked
from Guitargonauts (I am the site maintainer).

Riffs Bar bills the event thus:

"The TIN SPIRITS feat. XTC's DAVE GREGORY!

"A new project featuring XTC guitarist Dave Gregory will see its first
full gig here at Riffs. A prog rocker's dream, the guys play songs from
bands including Yes, King Crimson, Rush, Steely Dan, Genesis, Radio Head
and many others plus you'll hear XTC songs never before played live by
any member of the band"

Man, this sounds like a great show, huh?

Look for more updates on Guitargonauts in the next few days, including
some very enjoyable pix of Dave rehearsing with the Tin Spirits.

hello again, my old comrades!!

danny phipps here in north carolina .... ( i swear, i do believe i'm north
carolina's one and only xtc fan!)

just wanted to contact the fine folks here at chalkhills once again to let
all of you know that, yes, i AM still alive and breathing - just a little
bit slower these days due that damned aging process. i truly hope that
everyone here from the old gang of yesteryear are still pluggin' along and
jamming to their individual collections of xtc music (... both collectively
and solo, as it were). sad to think though that the ol' boys finally felt
it best to call it a day as a group, but sometimes i guess those things are
best ... depending on the situations, etc. anyway, on the opposite end of
the spectrum, it's also wonderful to know that chalkhills is still up and
running and providing us all with a viable outlet to voice our opinions and
what-not re: the swindon boys and the musical history they all put forth
back in the day. (cheers then to mr. relph and his ongoing efforts here
.... i AM assuming, of course, that JR is still in charge of onsite
operations? a lot can change, i know, in the time since my last visit
here.) i'm still as rabid a fan of the boys as ever and i really don't
think that a legal separation is just cause to put away the cd's, boxed sets
and other formats simply to gather dust on a shelf and never be listened to
again .... in fact, i just played my favorite xtc release ("english
settlement") a couple of days ago and i'm pleased to inform anyone reading
this that it still excites me no end!! i've been thinking lately about the
old chalkhills gang and those special people that personally stand out (good
ol' steve, the "strange" but lovely paul, the most talented becki, the
equally talented ben, and sooooo many others too numerous to name) ....
here's wishing that everyone is still good in health and that their
interests haven't wained when it comes the best thing that swindon ever
exported on anyone - the (still) amazing XTC!!!

take care all --

Hi:

Over at the XTCfans MySpace site (http://www.myspace.com/xtcfans), the
song of the week is "It's Nearly Africa."

If you want to know why this song reminds Andy of Paul Anka, or how
Terry recorded his part, check out the XTCfans blog site at:

Chant your spirit free
Rush to greet truth like a dart...
