Hi everyone,

This is just a note to let you know that Andy's reissues of the two
Dukes albums are absolutely incredible.  The art, packaging, and
additional tracks make these CDs "must-haves."

I know that, like me, many of you are obsessed with the recent
practice of "hot mastering."  Rest assured: unlike the Virgin
reissues, neither of these CDs are mastered too loudly.  Here's proof,
in case you'd like to look before you leap:

Let's hope that Andy can get his hands on the Virgin reissues that are
scheduled to come our way later this year.  It would be nice if they
were done properly, wouldn't it?

I don't catch much live music, because I'm old and cheap. Los Lobos in
Tucson and Leonard Cohen in Phoenix are the only acts I've patronized
in '09 so far. Paul McCartney was in Coachella and I missed him,
Porcupine Tree is coming to Denver and I've got no plans to be there,
and I still don't know if there's any truth to the rumor that Becki
DiGregorio takes the stage in full KISS makeup and bites the heads off
chickens.

But, sedentary as I am, the news of Dave Gregory and Tin Spirits's
upcoming debut at Riffs, just a psonic pshotput outside Pswindon,
possesses me with desire to be there. Jefferson Ogata quotes Dave:
"We'll be playing a mixture of covers of rock obscurities, prog
classics, and maybe a few XTC songs into the bargain. All guitars, all
of the time; keyboards are RIGHT OUT."

(How many rock gods know how to use a semicolon? Okay, David Bowie and
Brian May.)

Brother Ogata quotes from the Riffs playbill: "A prog rocker's dream,
the guys play songs from bands including Yes, King Crimson, Rush,
Steely Dan, Genesis, [Radiohead] and many others plus you'll hear XTC
songs never before played live by any member of the band."

Which Genesis song can be played without keyboards? Ah! "Ripples."

Indeed Dear God was nominated for a few MTV awards in, I believe, 1987, and
lost out each time if I remember to INXS.
I was in the video and my young American cousins would scream down the phone
at me each time a clip was shown as each clip included me up the tree!  I am
delighted it got to no. 67.  This song still rates as one of my favourite
ever of XTCs songs along with Complicated Game.   Happy Days!

Finally, today, after the MAyDay pause in mail delivery, I found the
package in my mailbox!

Very lovely editions, like little books of the two Dukes discs! I've
played Psonic and it sounds great, though i've not yet compared it to
the other remasters from a few years back... The demos are, as ever,
interesting...

The sole sore point: I didn't receive the offered Dukes badges, but
I'm hoping a letter to Ape will fix that...

Order yours:  No crappy jewel cases this time. Just a real class act!

In 2001, I spoke with Dukes of Stratosphear drummer Ian Gregory (aka
E.I.E.I Owen) for Wes Long's Optimism's Flames Web site. Though a
Psychedelic Psnippet made it on the site

to history the full-fledged interview did not, and so now our lord and
master John Relph has agreed to host it.
