I guess it depends what your definition of "hard" is. In my view
creating a rock opera would have to be one of the most taxing,
vexing, and hard things for any human to attempt. Fun and
interesting, yes. But easy?

Hi:

Over at the XTCfans MySpace site (http://www.myspace.com/xtcfans), the song
of the week is "Great Fire."

If you want to know what the inspiration for this song was, or what the name
of the next Police album *should* be, check out the XTCfans blog site at
http://blog.myspace.com/xtcfans.

No round of drinks can extinguish this
Feeling of love and engulfing bliss...

Knuckle Down was played at the end of the broadcast of Game 4 between the
Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox (since knuckleballer Tim Wakefield
pitched in the game). I hope that XTC got some royalties out of that!

Back to deep lurk mode.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I'm so busy lurking I
don't always get to read the digest every time.

I saw this album cover by Jimmy Eat World and It seriously reminds me
of another cover I'd seen somewhere before, but I just can't recall
the title or the band.

Look at the link to see for yourselves:

If the link doesn't work, look for Jimmy Eat World's Chase This Light
album on amazon.

Hi gang,

It's been a quiet few months on the 'Hills. I thought I'd ask two
questions to see if we can get the discussion going again.

1) A few weeks ago, one of XM's alt channels played "The Ballad of
Peter Pumpkinhead." Though I've always liked the song (even though
Ira's right -- it does have one too many verses), I have also always
believed that "The Disappointed" was a better song and a stronger
single. Do you agree?

2) Today, the same XM channel played "Living Through Another Cuba"
while I was driving home from work. This made me think that,
although I adore "Black Sea" (especially "Respectable Street," "No
Language In Our Lungs," and "Towers of London"), I like "Drums and
Wires" better. I'm wondering why, though. Is it that there are
fewer "filler" songs? More consistency within the songwriting? More
playfulness? What do you think?

My favorite XTC album remains "English Settlement," and my favorite
XTC song remains "Jason and the Argonauts." Just so you know.

With fondness,
-Ben
