Those of you on the knife-edge seat-edge of 1997 fashion and technology will remember the "mash-up" where bedroom boffins with the ability to count up to 4 (and free access to their dad's record collection or PC with a copy of Napster) would use their computers to "mash" together "songs" by different "artists" to make something that sounds like a complete and utter tuneless mess. One such protagonist - Mark Vidler of Go Home Productions (widely regarded as the best masher upper) - has now had enough of mashing it up and has put up ALL of his back catatalogue for free download. "So what?" I hear you cry. "I like proper music made by real, proper musical people:- folks who write their own songs, play their own instruments and sing their own lyrics - oh and I like Backstreet Boys too, but don't tell anyone on the list." Well, this Mark Vidler chap has produced a virtual CD featuring not one, but TWO remixes of Xtc tracks (Real by Reel and Living Through Another Cuba) a couple of mash-ups that look like they feature an Xtc track ("You Make Me Feel Xtc" & "Making Plans for Vinyl") and, reading through the notes on the page where these dowloads are listed, he's spent some time with Mr Partridge himself and is a bit of an Xtc fan. The artwork for CD11 - Unofficial Remixes 2 looks a little familiar too. So, if it sounds like your cup of Earl Grey - go, go GO! to Go Home Productions and download some Xtc-themed mash-ups today. (Beware, you will easily reach your limit on the free download service used). http://www.gohomeproductions.co.uk/ (I am not affiliated with Go Home Productions etc...) ade p.s. Whatever happened to Anonymous Bosch?

Can't remember a > specific reference to link to... I detest opera, but I kind of like the idea of taking a type of thing (because I don't like using the word "genre"), a type of thing that you don't necessarily enjoy and getting right into it and using the challenge of that to write something that's better than the people who are supposed to be good at it."

If you want to know the name of the "band" that first recorded the song, or what the name of the next XTC album would be, check out the XTCfans blog site at http://blog.myspace.com/xtcfans. The third song is Peter Fitzpatrick's cover of "Making Plans For Nigel." The last track is just Andy being Andy. It is an Omnibus-era, caffeine-jangled "outtake" of Andy in the vocal booth to set recording levels and, taking his time getting to the actual singing, knocks those in the control room out of their chairs with laughter. Check it: http://www.myspace.com/kingforadayxtctribute As more people link to the King For A Day page, I will change the songs with more frequency, so share this with those who might like it. He speaks just a bit. Amy
