The song is performed by Royal, the latest project from Matt Mahaffey (ex-Self). Matt Mahaffey also collaborated with Jason Falkner in a tribute to The Dukes Of Stratosphear called The Dukes Of Silverlake at the International Pop Overthrow festival at Spaceland on July 27, 2004. Check out the album at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000EULJYC/chalkhills Enjoy! -- John

"Receiving me" by Partridge and Eggers of the Nines IS a great song...all the songs are extremely hooky and are kind of a cross between XTC and Paul McCartney circa 1970. Jason Falkner's mixing is definitely heard here as well. they are streaming some of this on www.myspace.com/ninespop I'm waiting now for Jason's new one....oh yes, and of course Andy's.

I got to see them in '88 - I think - and had them all autograph their first album cover for me which I have framed in my office. Rob Fetters has always had one of my favorite voices of any singer and he's a kick-ass guitar player that can hold his own against Adrian. Glad to hear a 4th CD is on the way soon. After hearing about The Nines here for a while I FINALLY got a hold of the new CD and the one just before it and they're both great. It is very true that the singer at times sounds JUST like Andy. Random XTC content - I live in Los Angeles and over 4th of July weekend we went up to the Universal Citywalk complex to get something to eat and let our two year old run around in the fountain there and I was trying to get through the maze of people there I suddenly heard "Bike Ride To The Moon" blasting out of the P.A. system - Holy Dukes of Stratosphear, Batman! Plus, it seems like every time I go into this one shoe store near our apartment there is an XTC song on the sound system -- I even heard "I'd Like That" (I think that was it) in a drug store not long ago. Oh, and the other day one of my co-workers (in his mid-20's vs. my mid-40's) comes to me and says he needs me to settle a bet: "Who sang 'Making Plans For Nigel'?" he asks me. Not only could I give him the group, but the album name and side/track listing! Hmmm, I just realized that I didn't get a share of whatever he won. Oh, well. Okay, that's my first post in forever and so off I go back to Lurkdom. Ta, JK

Two weeks ago, my father died a terrible, painful death after a 2 1/2-year fight with cancer. I returned to the USA for the memorial services and to be with my family, to give strength where I could and to receive it when I needed. It is a deeply emotional experience, and horribly draining. On top of that, they expect a eulogy from family members. I tried to say what I wanted to say, but at the end I gave up, and I ended up quoting two poets I love (Hermann Hesse ["Bruder Tod" and "Manchmal"] and Erich Fried ["Abschied"]), and two others we all do. I used both "Dying" and "The Wheel and the Maypole"; I almost used bits of "Easter Theatre" and "Sacrificial Bonfire" as well. They comforted me when I needed it, provided me with words to name my pain with. Thank you, Andy and Colin. Au revoir, Jeff
