Has anyone checked out the various live bits on YouTube.Com? I found the TV
clip for "Books Are Burning" last night and it made just wish that Andy could
get some of Brian Wilson's mood drugs and do a few shows; no "pork shaking",
just solid live musicianship.

There's a new Mojo magazine out about the Beatles and Revolver and
all that, where several other artists make comments about fave Beatle
tracks. Andy of course chose Rain, and his comments and photo are
right there next to Todd Rundgren's, on p. 90.

Wull, hully gee, cul! -- that ol' Venus Apple sure don't fall far
from the tree...

You First Responders holding gurneys, firehoses and the Jaws of Life
keep your grips, but the rest of you should drop everything and pop
(yeah!) over to http://myspace.com/theshebeats and glim the glam that
is Holly Partridge's band, The SheBeats!

Poppa Partridge points with pride to the harmonic hookiness and
melodic marvelousness of Holly's composition, "Music Knows," which
she writty all by herself and no kibitzing from the Patridge-arch.
It's the first of the three posted tunes. The heatherosexually
inclined among you might want to keep the "homina-homina-hominas" to
yourselves at least in Poppa's hearing, but the rest of you may feel
free to express your approval of the Partridgean Pulchritude. And
dig: Absent the flowing blonde tresses and kohl-rimmed eyes, you
might be looking at the mouth, jawline and cheekbones of the
Reluctant Cannonball hImself! Ain't genetics great?

In Arthur news, Rhino's new box "Children of Nuggets: Original
ARtyfacts from the Second Psychedelic Era - 1976-1996" features two
Dukes tracks -- "The Vanishing Girl" and "25 O'Clock.' "Vanishing
Girl" is given pride of place as Disk 1, Track 1, which has got to
signify something-or-other. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/tracks/

OK, this really has nothing whatsoever to do with XTC,
but it's too damn funny not to pass along.

The recent death at 60 of Roger "Syd" Barrett,
announced this morning in a statement from the
surviving members of Pink Floyd, reminds me of why
Chalkhills is so important. Anyone else in my life --
family, friends, coworkers -- would say, "Syd who?"

Hi all,

Long-time lurker, but since I haven't seen this yet, I thought I'd surface
to let y'all know. Our beloved Andy has appeared on Paste Magazine Best
Songwriter's list at #64. Here's the blurb that accompanied it:

64>ANDY PARTRIDGE (XTC, The Dukes of Stratosphear)

"I'm 12 o'clock / All daylight hours / I'll warm your bed / I'll grow
your flowers / Like I'm a miniature sun / This ball ignited when she
told me I was her only one."

Bursting from England's polyglot punk movement with jittery energy,
Swindon's XTC shed its genre-bound genesis to reveal a beating heart of
classic pop songcraft. Led by the stubborn, brilliant and prolific Andy
Partridge (with Colin Moulding, who also contributed key tunes to the band's
catalog), the songs drew on England's pastoral tradition ("River Of
Orchids") and railed against the absurdities of modern life ("Scarecrow
People," "The Last Balloon"). Partridge's songs, brimming with Technicolor
imagery, jaw-dropping extended metaphors and some of the catchiest (and
quirkiest) pop melodies this side of the Fab Four, earned the band an
enduring cult despite no public performances since 1982. Reid Davis

GET>"The Man Who Sailed Around His Soul" (1986), "The Mayor of Simpleton"
(1989)

You can see the entire listing here:

There's also a podcast where they interview Andy...pretty nice interview
that also includes Peter Buck of REM and Paul McCarthy (but not all of them
together). You can download that at
http://www.pastecultureclub.com/2006-06-08.htm.

Diving back into the sea of lurkdom, now.
