Hello chalkfriends

I just want to say thanks to everyone who answered my post back in 10-9 on
how they were introduced to XTC. Lots of good stories there.

As requested, the place to get an MP3 of "I Wonder Why The Wonderfalls"

http://jossisahottie.com/wonderfalls/#scripts

Also, the video, the "making of the video" and show scripts.

I guess there's some trouble watching the video, you have to have the
right Flash video player or something, but I haven't tried yet. Or if
you want to send Andy about a dime and have the capability you can
also find it at I-Tunes for 99 cents.

I always get jealous of folks who post about other bands they like on
C'hills, but at last I've witnessed one that I think XTC fans would
really love... Outrageous Cherry. Something like a convergence of
Sloan, Mr. Partridge, the better Monkees songs, and the Sonics. More
aggressive than psychadelic live, I guess the opposite is true on
record (which, unfortunately, I was too broke to acquire at their show).

check 'em out, and those of you who are richer, pick up their record
and enjoy it.

My apologies if they've already been discussed - I just saw 'em...

"minna no" means "everyone's".

Example: "minna no ongaku" = "everyone's music", or "music for
everyone".

There's a very well-known Japanese language course called "Minna no
nihongo" = "Japanese for Everyone".

Readers who are interested in the meanings of "matte kudasai" or "shou
ga nai" I refer to Elephant Talk.

Bwaaahahahhaha.

I will shut up now.

So I'm cruising through my local music shop and see Andy's "Orpheus"
collaobration and decided to check it out. Now, I'm also a fan of Slapp
Happy so I figure--hey Andy and Peter Blegvad might be interesting.

Sorry folks it was about as much fun to listen to as it is to watch paint
dry. Actually, it was worse much much worse. I've already got my nomination
for worst album of the year.

Perhaps this album just wasn't made for me. Imagine "Explode Together" mated
with "Revolution #9" heated, twisted and turned like taffy and you can
imagine what "Orpheus" sounds like.

Not even the melodies were memorable. Well, there was one solid melody but
it sounded like Andy borrowed it from his own"Omnibus".

Oh Andy, Andy how disappointed I am.

This is a great record. Thanks to some of you younger XTC folks I have
been turned on to some really great music in the past few years. The
Shins have become a favorite listen lately, next to "Nilsson
Schmilsson" in the 6 disc changer in the car. Nilsson was a great
singer and songwriter. Glad someone else is still listening to this
record. Brings back fond memories of school.

For some XTC content, I was cleaning out my file cabinet the other day
and found a black and white promo photo of XTC. I'm not sure if the
group can handle attachments but if not I'll try to post it on a site
somewhere. In the same folder is a photo of Gang of Four (1980)

Interesting. I found mine in a local bargain bin for a dollar a couple of
years ago. I don't think the person pricing the used CDs knew what they had,
I used to pick up some very good finds there, such as Alison Moorer's The
Hardest Part for $3, The Monkees Pisces Aquarius Capricorn&Jones for $2.
I've noticed there's a couple of people who don't work for that store
anymore and the bargain bin's been smaller and not as good lately.

My question: how do you get ANYTHING done with a wild one year old in the
house? I have very wild two year old twin girls, I haven't been able to get
anything done that isn't work related in the past year, since they started
walking. We spend most of our spare time cleaning up after them when they're
in bed.

minna-no design = design for everybody

on the URL...
not only square record jacket designs, let me introduce a round shaped jacket.
it's easy to devise an idea making a round shaped jacket for a round shaped
record, but it's pretty difficult to make it real neat.

Hey all

Was sitting thinking about 'Summer's Cauldron' looking
out at the warm sunny skies of Vancouver and thinking
about the whole 'season cycle', growing up, changing
tastes etc. and was wondering what sort of music Andy &
Colin listen to for leisure?

As I approach 40, (not km/hr but years old) I don't
reach for the music I enjoyed when I was younger as
much as I used to. I'm sitting listening to a Mel Torme
CD as I type this. I have a closet full of music that
gets neglected as I now choose to listen to something
else. I don't dislike the music. It just doesn't seem
to fit my listening habits anymore. Possibly my
listening habits have adapted to where & whom hears the
music as well.

I'm curious what Andy & Colin listen to.
Does Andy listen to Gregory Isaacs (reggae) on a hot
sunny day? Does Colin put on a nice Jackie Gleason LP
as background music for dinner?

Cha Cha Cha ya later.

Brent

Hi all,

The wonderful column Tuesday Morning 3AM (www.tm3am.com) this week has a
little story on how Marillion's (I know, not my cup of tea either)
latest single has managed to chart in the UK and elsewhere in Europe
despite being completely self-financed and -released. The story
illustrates just the sort of business model XTC ought to follow. The
non-musical similarities of the two bands are eerily similar, most
notably a rabid, loyal fanbase that is willing to part with their cash
to support their heroes.

The only difference is that Marillion produces new music. After having
gone without for so long during the Virgin holdout, I thought that the
pent-up songwriting would have resulted in more than the 2 albums we've
seen in the now 4 years since the strike ended. I don't count Fuzzy
Warbles since it's not band output and it was already recorded stuff
most of which XTC's fans have already heard.

I guess the upshot of this is: get back to work, O Great Swindonians!
There is an audience out there waiting to buy your stuff and I daresay
the Marillion model just might prove as fruitful for XTC.

Thanks for enduring my rant,
Bill Sherlock

P.S. Get onto iTunes and buy the Wonderfalls single...it's well worth 99c.
