Orpheus directs a beetle
iridescent gold and purple [red and yellow]
to walk through a puddle
of ink
and on wet feet
proceed across a sheet
of hotel stationery
leaving in its wake
a script like the stitches
in a long wound.

A script which Orpheus deciphers
bending to peer
through his lorgnette
and muttering excitedly
as image
after image
astonishes him
with its unexpected force
and purity.
