I am not accusing Andy of plagerism, just saying that the melodies seem similar to me. Read the notes to 'Knights in Shining Karma' in the Homespun booklet for Andy's take on borrowing from others.

Some of the material seems like "filler" to me; songs (and non-songs) that were chosen only to take up space. But several of the tunes are also real gems, and should have been included on earlier releases. My wife and daughter both adore the "James and the Giant Peach" songs, and we all agreed that the movie would have been better if Andy had been allowed to finish scoring the soundtrack. I personally think "Dame Fortune" and "Goosey Goosey" are stellar tracks that could easily have been singles if they had been allowed to move through the process of being recorded by the entire band. The price was too steep, like most of us I went through the Idea site. The total came to about $47 with shipping - if I had gone through CD Universe the price would have been only slightly lower and the discs would not have had Andy's John Hancock. I know hundreds have said this before, but if the discs had been more nominal (say $12-$15) I'm sure a lot more would be sold. But what the hell do I know? Is it "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again" by Eric Carmen? I kind of think they
sound eerily alike.
The line you mentioned ("I don't wanna find myself this way again")
corresponds with the line "Close the curtain and see it end".

A friend reports that he saw another video, possibly Senses. I was surprised how young and angry Colin looked in "Ball and Chain." I guess I've never seen video of him before about 1990. And I had never heard of the second version of "King" before, although it's in the Chalkhills discography. Very trippy colorization that I think distracts from the song. And Andy, I dunno what the line "And I don't want to find myself this way again" sounds like, other than a very good part of a very good song. But one similarity has always caught my ear. Am I the only one who gets reminded of McCartney's "Listen to what the Man Said" when Towers of London plays? It happens at a few points in Towers, but especially at the end, that little falsetto melody that floats above "la la londinium"... Jim

On a totally unrelated note, I have recently completed the first issue of my new magazine, Mouthy. It contains new interviews with many kick-ass folks like Martin Newell and Mitch Friedman and Gary Numan and Bob Daisley. And Michael Gira from Swans! I guess that wasn't a totally unrelated note then. Issue Two is already going to be a monster, I've got interviews with Adrian Belew and Tony Levin (separately of course) and we're lining up several exciting, Chalkhills-related interviews too. And no Colin doesn't sit in but I ain't a genie you know<< Thanks for the tip. I hadn't heard about this album. I still think that it's viable for Dave to do a set like this. If nothing else, a live recording of a one off show (similar to what Dave Davies did with the live albums he's released through the Internet). Sure, Dave would have to pay royalties and all but he might even make a small profit as well. Don't know how much Virgin would charge him for it but since he receives a small stipend from Andy and Colin's music, he'd be paying all three of them to perform the material. That doesn't make it any more affordable.... I'm just getting tired of waiting for Dave to release an album of original material. I do enjoy his guitar playing on other folk's albums but would like to see him stretch his creative muscles. Meanwhile I'll listen to my live Cleaners From Venus/Martin Newell tracks with Dave on guitar. Speaking of which, how does Martin get away with releasing his radio stuff? Picked up the remastered Off White Album. The book excerpts are pretty funny and the video (despite the fact that it's all from one camera angle and Martin's pretty far away from the camera), is fun for those of us in the US who don't have access to seeing Martin live. I'd love to see a tribute album to Martin (particularly if they could get members of a certain band to participate). He's a talented guy who definitely deserves some airplay in the US By the way, loved Roxy Music's reunion tour of last year. For those Roxy fans fyi there will be a live album culled from the shows and the DVD is awesome. It's clear the guys were having a blast. Forgot to mention Bryan Ferry's Frantic as one of my fav albums from last year.
