It's interesting to note that Richards, Jagger, John Lennon and of course the boss ( still can't believe he got the best album of all time in a recent poll) all mentioned touring as key to their motivation....falling on deaf ears I'm sure!

Do you mean the one who was dressed in leather and tied up at the end? Is that that video? Well whether it is or not, yeah, I often wondered who she was, and also wondered if she enjoyed her little subby experience! Dear God what fun! Oops! Belinda

Don't you hate it when you go into a music store, browse the shelves and notice how many lesser, inconsequential bands will have things like DVDs released, yet XTC can't get any love? Altho Colin literally says this is about his many sheds (`five sheds Moulding') one wonders about the connection to Nick's "Man in a Shed"/Time of no Reply about an "unsane" or depressed man. Fruit Nut.... Fruit Tree...? Any connection? And if anyone can elaborate on XTC's opinion of Nick Drake, I'd be interested. Maggie

You want cool packaging? Whoa, we got that. A bee-yootiful CD case encloses over a hundred mp3 files by your fellow chalksterinos. I'd say hearing our leader John Relph attack Another Satellite with a banjo is worth the price of admission alone. Wonderful stuff! Jim

Excuse me for being an internet geek, but I found myself staring at Wil Wheaton's weblog, and he seems to have a soft spot for "Dear God." It reminds him of high school. It reminds *ME* of college, even though we're just about the same age. But I digress. http://www.wilwheaton.net/mt/archives/001398.php Back to lurking. -ira

It's a gentle acoustic combination of Senses working overtime and The garden of Earthly delights. It is on the web, with the help of that most excellent and audacious Chalker, Mitch Friedman (you can check out his site by deleted all the stuff after mitchfriedman.com): http://mitchfriedman.com/jim/GardenSenses.mp3 I combined the two songs to that it would work for kids. I sing it to my own children at home, and I sing it to my sixth grade students at work. Official motto: "Corrupting the next generation one kid at a time". I'd also like to say that I am enjoying: 1. fuzzy warbles, volumes 1,2,3, and 4. All signed by Andy. These are grab bags the way they are. I wouldn't change a thing. "All I Dream Of Is A Friend" is just about the best song by anyone for any purpose, peaches or no. 2. King For a Day - there is some great stuff on here! My song is under the name of my band 3Tripper - Merely a Man. But I think we stayed too close to the original. My faves are by those of you who changed the song radically. Jim

Cheese are on the Pink Hedgehog label, which is the English label releasing my next record, "Guladong." It's safe to say that the bands on Pink Hedgehog share a clear love of XTC. With Cheese the influence is quite obvious without ever coming across as derivative. They do the "D & W"/"Black Sea" two-guitars, bass and drums thing very well! Great songwriting and singing, and I can't wait to share the bill. I'm bringing over my own guitarist and bass player, but we're borrowing Alan Strawbridge from Cheese to play drums. We're next at the Cavern Club(!) in Liverpool on Tuesday 14 Oct., again with Cheese and also the Lucky Bishops, Bitter Little Cider Apples, Bruise and Wendy Ip. The latter two acts I don't know much about, but the Bitter Little etc are also on Pink Hedgehog. Their song "Crocodile Head" gets stuck in my jaw for weeks on end. The Lucky Bishops are on the Bevis Frond's Woronzow label, and are an amazing band live and on record. This gig is part of the International Pop Overthrow festival which started in Los Angeles and is moving ever-eastward, from Chicago to New York and now to Liverpool. I'm personally a bit freaked to be playing the Cavern Club in the first place, but this will be the cd release gig for my new record, so I'm doubly troubled! Can't wait! There's the slight chance of me doing a solo spot in Oxofrd on the 28th at the Port Mahon, but no confirmation yet, and I'm leaving soon enough that I wouldn't be able to send another announcement. My website will have any additional info on these shows, so for anyone curious, please visit: http://www.antonbarbeau.com or write me at antbar@slip.net Cheers, Ant

This summer I participated in an online survey from Zagat (you know, the restaurant rating guide). They wanted to know your thoughts on music... your favorites, best produced, best songwriter etc. I had forgotten all about this after a bit until I received their newly published 1000 Top Albums of All Time Music Guide in the mail. Drums and Wires has made the top 1000 list! It was given an overall rating of 26 out of a possible 30. Further ratings on the album yielded a 26 for songwriting, 25 for musicianship and a 24 for production. Digging through the guide a little deeper, they break down the best by genre (rock, jazz, rock-oldies and the like). Drums and Wires was listed as the 7th highest rated album in the Rock-New Wave category. The top 12 in that category also included (rating shown as well): Elvis Costello, This Year's Model (29) Elvis Costello, My Aim Is True (28) The Jam, The Jam Collection (28) Talking Heads, Remain In Light (27) Talking Heads, Speaking in Tongues (27) Graham Parker, Squeezing Out Sparks (26) XTC, Drums and Wires (26) Nick Lowe, Labour of Lust (26) Gang of Four, Entertainment! (26) Squeeze, Singles 45's and Under (26) The English Beat, I Just Can't Stop It (25) The Specials, The Specials (25) More digging in the guide... Bruce Springsteen was the most popular with Born to Run while Miles Davis, Kind of Blue received the only perfect score (30). They Might Be Giants had the 2nd highest rated Kids album with No! (behind the Muppet Movie soundtrack... you know... The Rainbow Connection song) Well, we all know about lists and what should be done with most of them... Take care Thomas NP: The Darkness, Permission to Land (this effing ROCKS!)

I blew it. I overlooked the XTC-themed skins for the MP3 player. To remedy this, the all-knowing, all-seeing John Relph offered to serve them up at the website. Not willing to leave something unenhanced, he converted the skins _AND THE PLAYLISTS_ to M3U format which makes them much more versatile! Go to the website for more information. If any of you feel cheated or confused, email me. KFAD WEBSITE (http://www.geocities.com/king4aday_xtc/) The bandwidth problem with downloading songs is big nuisance but I am working on a solution. It should be in place during the week of October 13. If those who have ordered the CD have an opinion about which song should be the kick-off song for he website, email me at rjpa1@comcast.net. KFAD INTERESTING INFO! Amanda Kittredge, who contributed two songs, River Of Orchids and Easter Theatre, played all the instruments and sang all the vocals. She started working on them when she was 16 years old and finished them after she'd turned 17. Pretty impressive! Cheers, Richard

Obviously one's interest may be piqued by the presence of Dave Gregory on a couple of numbers, and Becki's cover of Andy's "Susan Revolving" (quite a trip, this!), but also it's Becki's own songs, recorded with a bunch of very creative and talented musical cohorts that makes her two albums ["Seven Worthies... of the Bamboo Grove" and "God's Empty Chair"] such a thrill to listen to! This stuff hovers alternately between the delicate and introspective to fierce balls-out rockin'. Becki has a commanding voice that delivers her gentle messages beautifully (imagine if you will, a more melodic Grace Slick). There are no compromises - it's all of a quality that is too rare these days. And the production, with liberal but tasteful psychedelic touches, is consistently interesting and complementary to the songs (widescreen Technicolour!). Like others before me, I highly recommend you seek out these albums. I'd be most surprised if you were to be disappointed! And a pleasant bonus is that she comes across as a genuine, just plain nice, person. Thank you Becki for your kindness, generosity and just for letting me (and us) into your fascinating world... ~~p@ul-of-oz
