Message-ID: <002501c317e8$b0901530$3fc65018@Computer> Hello All... It's been nearly three years since I subscribed to the ol' Chalkhills Digest, and I've been having some XTC withdrawal symptoms as of late, so I thought I'd sign myself back up. Nice to see it's still going strongly. Just thought I'd let everyone know that there is now an XTC newsgroup (alt.music.xtc) which I started some time ago. It is mostly dormant right now, so I thought maybe anyone who's interested in posting XTC-related stories/images/audio files/wallpapers...what-have-you - could drop by and say Hi! Like I said, very little there at the moment, but maybe we can get something going.... If your news carrier doesn't have it (some don't), Google Groups does, at least the last time I noticed. Cheerio!

John Relph likes Sergio Mendes? me too! Darryl likes Shonen Knife, Yoko Ono, and Tiny Tim? I have several discs by each of them. And I have The Transformrd Man as well. After years of being the ONLY kid in the small mid-Michigan town I grew up in who was even remotely intersted in new wave/punk, I've become pretty thick-skinned about the music I like. The only thing in my collection I would find slightly embarassing is Abba Gold, but I got that for free when I worked in a record store, so it's not like I paid money for it! John Relph's short list of music to drive people away is interesting, although I like everything on his list! Can be fairly easy if you tailor it to the people you want to leave. When working at the record store, we would have fun with this. Putting on Karlheinz Stockhausen's Music for Shortwave Radios when there were 500 people in line to buy Garth Brooks concert tickets, that sort of thing. During the holiday season, I could empty a busy store at closing time by putting the barking dogs version of Jingle Bells on repeat. By the third time through, the store would be empty! I myself have broken up parties by playing Trout Mask Replica and John Zorn at top volume. The universal guarenteed room emptier in my collection, however, is the Japanese noise band The Gerogeregegege. Even I find it unlistenable, which is why I've kept it around, actually. After a failed attempt at setting up an MP3 webstreamer out of my guestroom, I've taken the advice of a friend and signed up radio hidebound with www.live365.com. One can tune in at http://www.live365.com/stations/hidebound . Radio hidebound currently has around eight hours of music streaming before it begins to repeat. No more than one song by any musician, except for blokes in multiple bands like Adrian Belew (solo, King Crimson, the Bears). The current XTC song loaded is my current fave, "Seagulls Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her". It's a fairly eclectic mix (shocker!), but centers around college radio 1981-88. The last few songs played have been: The Teardrop Explodes - Poppies in the Field Depeche Mode - Leave in Silence Martha and the Muffins - Sins of Children k.d. lang - Miss Chatelaine Blue Oyster Cult - Nosferatu Siouxie and the Banshees - Cities in Dust Chris Stamey & Peter Holsapple - She Was the One yeah, Blue Oyster Cult. Without any embarrassment, I might add. So tune in if you have a few minutes (high bandwidth recommended) and let me know what you think. If anyone else here has one of these things running, please let me (us) know how to find it. cheers.kah kevin a. hiscock www.hidebound.com home of The Monster radio hidebound at www.live365.com/stations/hidebound

I don't have any guitly pleasures and I'd show off all my CDs that I have. My favorite "guilty pleasures" that I love are: ABBA Cliff Richard Olivia Newton-John Cleine Dion Bette Midler Duran Duran Spandau Ballet Andrew Lloyd Weber (I LOVE The Phantom of the Opera and Jusus Christ Cuperstar, and if anything has a problem with that, well :p) Carly Simon (I was born a Carly Simon fan, since my parents named me after her, my middle name is Carlie. It's spelled differently, but that's who I'm named after.) Tom Jones The Bee Gees I could go on and on, but there wouldn't be enough room for the whole list. :P Molly XTC Song of the Moment: Omnibus Non-XTC Content: "Devil Woman" - Cliff Richard

A couple issues back, Phil Corless asked: >Supposed you are hosting a Chalkhills party. Everyone on this list will be >coming to your house. Even Harrison Sherwood. Now you know that the first >thing we all will do is head straight for your CD collection to "figure you >out".... We're going to pore over your discs like anthropologists studying >some lost pygmy tribe. > >The question is, which of your CDs are you going to remove from your >collection and hide under the couch simply because you are ashamed to let >fellow XTC fans know you own and enjoy these discs? I suppose if it was just the regular riff-raff, I'd just put up the Queensryche "Operation Mindcrime." But if Harrison Sherwood was going to be there, I'm afraid I'd hustle away everything except my bootleg Beachboys Smile, the Kings Great Lost Album, and maybe Snakefinger. The Sting and the Fine Young Cannibals would be right out. Plus, I wouldn't want any of you to know just how much Fleetwood Mac I have. Oops, Chris -- Oh, joy. It's another website. http://chrisvreeland.com

Extremely nice solo piano and vocals performance but even better response by the audience! There was a small bunch of guys on the back singing along with good ol' Joe! I'm not alone! Giancarlo

I've seen many different dates for Andy - 12/11/53, 11/11/52, 12/11/52, 11/11/53. I haven't been able to find Colin's birthday at all. Thanks all Jason
