And get this, the ratings went up! The show is pulling in BETTER ratings than dear departed Buffy. The WB is so high on this renewed interest in the program that they are scheduling repeats of the first season in prime time this fall as "Gilmore Girls: Beginnings" or some such silly name. Now if only they would move the show out of Tuesday night, where a horde quality TV shows were scheduled last year. I have heard crap like that before... Basically, it's punks who have nothing better to do but criticize "new wave" because it made it more popular than so called "punk" music did. If I remember correctly, Blondie, Ramones, Moder Lovers, Television, Talking Heads were all the original punk bands. Hell, we could go as far as saying Velvet Underground, MC5, Zappa and New York Dolls were the first punk bands. Sometime in the late 70's, punk got pretty stale. Many punks felt that if it was not "hardcore" it was sellout, hence, the media term "new wave." Punk was supposed to be original and had nothing to do with how hard it is. Anyway, that is my take on it. I always hated the punk bickering in the 80's about who was "real" punk... RIP John Entwhistle.

I couldn't help to add my thoughts on the relationship between the
WB's GILMORE GIRLS and music:
Apart from the fact that Lane (Rory's Korean friend) is a lover of the
so-called independent music (she's the one who brings WASP STAR in
that episode), the show also has presented, over the episodes, music
that I love.
One recent example was Wilco's "Heavy Metal Drummer" (from Wilco's
YANKEE HOTEL FOXTROT), when Lane enters the music shop (whose owner is
none other than Carole King, whose "Where You Lead" plays on the
opening credits).
Grant Lee Phillips often appears playing on the streets (in one very
funny episode, he had a dispute with another man over who was the
town's troubadour).
All in all, GG is a very good, well produced and well acted piece of
television. I hopefully hope the PTB at WB think twice before acting
ABC-like...

Birth announcements have already been sent out, and the inclusion of the subject of this message in said announcement was soundly rejected (although, understood) by the one who makes such decisions. Maybe I'll mock one up on Photoshop when I have time. (Ha! Time! Ha! That's funny!) The first thing to tell you is that due to various reasons (mainly me not know it was graduation time at Oxford Uni - d'oh!) we're moving the gathering to Lechlade which is nearer to the Horse and of course Swindon. Thanks to Smudge's organisational skills we have a timetable that looks good to me. Saturday: Meet lunchtime in New Inn - general greetings and hail-fellows-well-met type stuff Afternoon for either more gassing in pub or a walk down by old Father Thames, enjoying the sunshine (har har) depending upon preferences (and perhaps some meeting/picking up stragglers) PM, meal and more drinks somewhere in Lechlade. Sunday: Visit the Horse and then on to The White Horse pub at Woolstone to meet Debra Edmonds and some special-ish guests. Debra - who is a star btw - has got Steve Warren (XTC's roadie and friend of Andy P's from when they were little) to come along on Sunday - all things permitting. He has said about bringing along photos and info to show us. And she's also seeing if Paul Mabberley can make it too. I want to book us a table(s) because it's a busy time of year, so can you let me know if you are going to be with us for lunch. Can I ask you to let me know asap or by Sunday lunchtime at the latest.
