They ship one and one is put on backorder.
Order confirmation. October 1, 1999.
Shipment confirmation. October 5, 1999.
First backorder notice. Nov. 1, 1999.
Second backorder notice. Dec. 1, 1999.
Third backorder notice. Dec 31, 1999.
Jan. 4, 2000. Item on backorder is listed a new item on website.

September 25, 2000. CDNow are sent scan of my VISA statement.
October 3, 2000. CDNow say I wasn't charged for second CD.
October 3, 2000. CDNow make up new invoice without second CD on it.

Isn't that what started this mess. The special URL.

XTC were just on Top Of The Pops 2 (Wednesday 8th November 6.25pm) It should therefore be repeated on Saturday BBC2. It's NOT the video of Senses Working Overtime we've all seen, but their happy performance in the TOTP studios. So very happy they look too. Andy is looking straight at camera, looking as relaxed and as in control as you can imagine. Really performing the song too. It's a joy. The words that came up on the screen (I'm typing as fast as they appear) went something like: "XTC are major contenders for Daftest Album Title award, with titles like Apple Venus Wasp Star and Rag & Bone Buffet, Upsy Daisy Assortment and Tiny Circus of Life. I ordered it last week and it arrived promptly several days ago... now, I suppose being a fan of modern dance is not necessary for enjoyment of this show (I prefer classical ballet myself - elaborate sets and so forth), but an enjoyment of XTC is certainly a requirement if "artsy" stuff isn't your cup of tea (or glass of stout, as case may be). The tape is in three parts: 1. River of Orchids (performance of said-song) 2. Apple Venus (a collection of songs from AV1 + "War Dance" from Nonsuch) and then [after a supposed intermission] "The Orchid Show" featuring the music of XTC, among others. I really enjoyed watching this. My roommate (who happens to love XTC -- though he's not quite so rabid as I) walked into the room during "Fruit Nut" and thought it was simply "silly" watching all the "yard-working motions" of the dancers. It must be noted that he dislikes the "fine arts" in general, and dance in particular. He watched (visibly amused) for several minutes before leaving me to watch by myself (an arrangement I think I preferred). The music is not overpowering (you can tell the sound is live rather than overdubbed) and I toyed briefly with the idea of synching up my AV1 CD on my stereo with the performances on tape for "full effect". But make no mistake, it comes through very clearly. Also, the service that recorded this for the NDC employed several cameras, and thus the edits are efficient and very classy. You don't miss any of the action; this is FAR from a "shaky camcorder in the back row" production. It's really very well-executed. Some pieces, like "Knights in Shining Karma", are beautiful two-person dances - "River of Orchids" has one dancer. The whole set has very sparse and minimal lighting / decor, and the dancers occassionally move from slow, expressive gestures to strange "jogging-in-place" motions that were a bit jarring to me (I'll admit complete my ignorance of modern dance). Occasionally I found myself wanting something a little more - something a little more baroque, maybe. More shamelessly acrobatic. Something grander, with more sets, more music. The music of XTC is so expansive and visual that it seems to scream above dark lighting and lightly bobbing bodies. Don't get me wrong - it was all very classy (and a dream come true if you love AV1) but I've always had my own "yellow submarine"-style video fantasies for Andy and Colin's creations, and this certainly does not attempt anything in that direction. More power to them! I'm happy to have anything at all like this in my collection. I'm sure repeat viewings will increase my appreciations for the show. The tape includes a nice postcard and several programs from the show. It's a little bit "homespun", and I mean that as a compliment. I heartily recommend this to everyone, even if you're just curious. ~~Steve

Furthermore, I seem to recall that the show in question was compered by none other than John Peel who, if memory serves me right, introduced them as 'those loveable mop-tops from Swindon'. I think the brilliance of the song lies in this ambiguity -- that's one of the things that makes it such a rich listening experience. Like all great art, the song lays itself open to its audience and allows them the room to participate. I've argued here before that it is of course the other way around: the stage is the natural habitat for popular music, and musicians like to play. You should have seen how our Dave really "got going"; after some initial pedal problems during the first songs of the main show you could actually see how each song made him feel a little better and more confident. And then he just shined on and on; conjuring up the most magical tones and solos and some pretty nifty e-bow playing too. And this band of friends also demonstrated that it is very much possible to do just the one-off gig every once in a while. Without the truckloads of gear, multi-million budgets and gruelling schedules.
