I'm a huge fan of XTC, and my only disappointment is that there are
quite a few songs that are simply not available to a fan. I've spent a
pretty penny purchasing some CDs from Amazon.com in order to obtain some
songs that were missing from my collection (Ela Guru, the Homo Safari
Series, My Paint Heroes, Skeletons, etc...). There are still some songs on
my list that I have simply not been able to find. I don't know if Mr.
Partridge has any control over this, but if he does, I wish he would release
these songs on a few CDs.
Do you know of anyone who could make a CD containing a handful of XTC
songs? Price is not an issue. I am just desperate to listen to these songs!!
These include "Where Did The Ordinary People Go?", "Spiral", "Say It", "Rip
van Ruben", "Living in a Haunted Heart", "Cut it Out", "Goodnight, Sucker".
Perhaps "Third Stone from the Sun" (David Dreams), "Merry Christmas Song",
"Psychedelic Christmas", "I Am The Walrus" (Colin's Hermits). I guess I
could also include "Candymine" and "I Wonder Why the Wonderfalls" (I
actually bought the entire TV series boxed set on DVD so I could hear the
song!).
I am also interested in Andy Partridge's "From A-Z". This CD looks like
it contains a wealth of material. Do you think this one is the best
collection of his "rare" tracks (original songs that never made it onto XTC
albums)?
     Thank you so much,

Erik Victor McCrea

There seems to be two versions of said song.

I didn't see anything in the Chalkhills "Recordings" about two separate
versions. Any insight?

Mega-Master Medley of Mainly Melded Music" awhile now . . but it's
the audio version I been tinkering with since the early 90's . . .

In a word, Jamie, THANKS!! Just ordered one for my pick-up ... and
hopefully the freebie will go to my wife's vehicle. (Yeah, there are indeed
some bonafide southerners here in good ol' North Carolina who actually do
listen to and admire the hell outta XTC! *wink*)

Can't wait to take the boys 'round town then and show 'em off!!

Thanks again, Jamie ... you da man! :-)

From the Every-Famous-Person-Knows-And-Shags-Every-Other-Famous-Person
file ...

Fooling around reading about Frank Zappa, up came a reference *Blow
Boys Blow*, an album of sea shanties recorded in the 1960s by Ewan
MacColl and A. L. Lloyd, which Zappa recommended and lent to Captain
Beefheart, who never returned it.

Learning more about Ewan MacColl: He was born James Henry Miller;
Marxist folk singer and musicologist; got busy with eventual third
wife Peggy Seeger three years before the birth of daughter Kirsty in
1959 to second wife Jean Newlove.

Learning more about Kirsty MacColl: She died in 2000 in a boating
accident in Mexico (the errant boat that struck her evidently was
piloted by a Mexican warlord who bribed or threatened one of his
lieutenants into claiming to have been at the wheel); married to the
great producer Steve Lillywhite -- there's your XTC connection -- who
introduced her to The Pogues, who added her voice to their depressing
Christmas classic, "Fairytale of New York."

Learning more about ... nope, had to go to work.

Check out (and please "like") Erica's new music page -- she's got two songs
there, both from her upcoming album "Sunlit Night," scheduled for release in
the spring. One of the songs is a cover of Andy's "I Unbecome." Gorgeous
stuff!

Song o'th'day: You know when you have a friend that wrote a book or
recorded a song and he / she just wants you to *love* it and you have
to struggle to find something nice to say because frankly, it isn't
that good. Robert Sherwood ain't that guy. He IS *that* good. The
issue is - the radio doesn't play music like this. Just listen to his
record and give it a chance. It's beautiful...
