In reply to Mr. Andrew Notarian's message, it really irks me that Mr.
Partridge thinks that writing songs is "a game for young people and old
people just tend to embarrass themselves." The Apple Venus albums were
absolute masterpieces. I think Mr. Partridge has already embarrassed himself
by making his Fuzzy Warbles releases more of a priority than focusing on new
XTC material. During that span, there could have been at least 5 or 6 new
XTC albums for all of us to treasure. And now the band is kaput? I still
cannot believe this turn of events. It angers me to no end. My favorite
songwriter thinks he's washed up? Give me a break, Andy.  Erik Victor McCrea

Lance Peterson commented on Stuart Fratkin's post in Chalkhills.

They have given so much, and dealt with so much of industry B.S that I can
understand them not to every create as a group again.  But this world could
really use more XTC.  They are lucky to still be in good health and still
creatively active and it's great that they want to do things on their own
and start down their own paths.  The combination of them working together
was magic and I hope they realize that and one day have plans to gather
their home demos and pop in a studio at least one more time.

Hi Folks,

Any XTC collectors in the NSW Central Coast? I was in a 2nd Hand bookstore
in Gosford last weekend & I spotted a couple of XTC singles behind the
counter for sale. They were <from memory - shaky at best> Radios in Motion
and Senses Working Overtime (in the picture sleeve). They were sealed in
plastic bags with a list of $10 each.

This is the 2nd hand dealer on the same side as the train station tucked in
next to the Podiatrist on the corner.

Great bands you've never heard of:

1) Pugwash;
2) The Singing Loins (local to me in Gillingham, Kent, UK. Still releasing
albums on Damaged Goods and gigging. Acoustic punk folk a roll and
brilliant.);
3) The Lilac Time;
4) The Divine Comedy

Three of them most readers of this will have heard of. Their sales simply
do not match the quality of their output.
The Singing Loins started in the 90s, released a few albums with the help
of local lad Billy Childish then split up. Reformed in 2005 to promote back
catalogue coming to CD and have released four albums of new material since,
whilst picking up a following. Not for nothing did they release an album
called 'Songs To Hear Before You Die'

There's plenty to be found on you tube, including much posted themselves as

It's good to be reminded of how much fun it is to read, and write for,
Chalkhills. Arigato as always, Relph-san.

Rob Hill quotes Will Harris of A.V. Club: The "Three Wise Men are, in
actuality, XTC, and it never fails to make me chuckle that the holiday
which celebrates the birth of Jesus inspired one of pop music's most
notorious atheists (Andy Partridge) to write one of his catchiest
ditties."

Rob adds: "The Kinks' 'Father Christmas' gets a nod too."

Ian Anderson also deserves to be in this conversation for the secular
crush on Jesus he displays in multiple songs, as does Tom Lehrer, as
does Greg Lake for ELP's "I Believe In Father Christmas"
(Lake/Sinfield), as does Jackson Browne for "The Rebel Jesus,"
performed with The Chieftains.

Factoring in the classic tunes written by Jews, from Irving Berlin to
Sen Jacob Javits's niece, Joan Javits ("Santa Baby"), and you're left
pondering this seemingly unresolvable paradox: What is it about
Christmas that you don't have to believe in order to believe?
