Louisvillian here, spent loads of money at ear X-tacy over the years,
including quite a few XTC albums. At some point in the late 90s, one of
their promotional materials had a quote on the back from Andy himself,
saying something like, "Well, it sounds a lot better than 'ear-Herman's
Hermits'." Just thought I'd throw that in.

While patiently waiting for Andy's next musical move -- perhaps to be
inspired to dive into a brilliant solo album -- I thought I'd
recommend another British group that's been doing great work for some time
now. Field Music has a great pop sensibility that's not
too far afield from that of XTC. The CD "Measure," for instance, is
excellent from top to bottom. Their 4th CD, "Plumb" is due for
a February release - and as a teaser, they're offering a free download of
one song contained therein called "(I Keep Thinking) About A New Thing."
Check it out. Maybe you'll also hear a 'respectable' XTC echo or two in
their style.

Good Morning Chalkids...

Sort of in the one hit wonder topic thread, I often ponder XTC's lack of
mass appeal and I ask myself "Who are the world's greatest bands you've
never heard of ? "...Here's three of mine, will you please share yours? 1)
Crack the Sky 2) NRBQ 3) Deaf School

wow, it was great to receive a digest with several posts in it, but it
saddened me to check out the digest number... here we are in year 17, it's
almost December, and this is only the 9th digest of the year. It made me
think back to the mid-to-late 1990s when it was not uncommon to get one each
day... oh well.

So, a few weeks ago I saw Jon Brion play in NYC and it was an amazing show.
The guy is good on every instrument and is a wonderful entertainer to boot.
If you've never seen how he concocts a full-band sound all by himself, check
him out on youtube...

Whoever put this up on youtube was standing about 3 feet in front of me... I
do believe that I'm one of the "background singers" on there lol

Brion also did Senses Working Overtime in that "cover segment"
