Message-ID: <fqkkre+jgb1@eGroups.com> Actually, that should read "PdP's DAG JUHLIN and DAN LEALI join XTC Tribute Project for one night only gig!" My sorry! Please read and absorb this announcement from the Tributosaurus news service! **** A British Invasion at Martyr's! ***SPECIAL FRIDAY SHOW - 9:30PM*** What's a 3-letter word for British, melodic, hyperactive pop music of the 80's and 90's? That's right, it's XTC! If you know them, you love them - and if you don't, you should. XTC is simply one of the most creative and interesting bands of the post-new wave scene. Intricate arrangements, quirky but infectious melodies, incredible guitar work, and thoughtful lyrics - these guys had it all. And they stopped touring in 1982, so you won't see anything this close to the real thing anywhere else! We'll have some surprises in store, including an appearance by the Tributosaurus Strings! And if that wasn't enough, XTC is Dan Leali's 40th Birthday pick, so come on out and buy the old man a beer or 10! You don't want to miss it! Tributosaurus Becomes XTC Friday, March 7th - 9:30pm Admission : $15 At Martyr's - 3855 N. Lincoln Ave, Chicago Tickets available online at http://www.martyrslive.com Special Guests for this show include : Steve Frisbie (Frisbie) David Blamires (Pat Methreny Group) Colby Beserra (The Party Faithful) Dag Juhlin (Poi Dog Pondering) Jeff Frehling (The Rock Squad) Kalyan Pathak (Farheed Haque) Ingrid Graudins (Jonatha Brooke) And the Tributosaurus Strings featuring: Chuck Bontrager Dominic Johnson Regina Leslie Erica Lessie You can always find more info at Tributosaurus.com And come be our friend or read a blog or something at www.myspace.com/Tributosaurus **** Well... see you there, friends! Hope you are well, Dag Juhlin

The 'Hill, even in its current state of snooze, did a good job of recommending fresh new soundmongers. I have another idea. Have you downloaded iTunes and imported all your CDs? If not, do it now; it's free, and I'll wait. Good! All right, now turn your speakers on and click on "Party Shuffle." I'll guarantee you'll hear the most amazing mix of encouraging, affirming, challenging, ballsy, get-up-and-dancey sounds. It's your own collection -- it's all the stuff you never played and forgot you had. If you're like me, from the late '80s to early in the '00s, you got bored with the radio, sidled over to your CD shelf, tilted your head to starboard, and didn't find anything you wanted to listen to. Some artists (Joe Cocker?) you just don't want to listen to for 45 minutes or a full hour. But heard a song at a time, selected at random by the deejay of impeccable taste who resides in your computer, your collection, pardon the cliche, rocks! Granted, some albums should be listened to from beginning to end, and there are a few famous song-pairs which should never be sundered (e.g., "Summer's Cauldron"/"Grass"), but in general, hearing one track at a time, especially when you don't know what's coming and it catches you by surprise, and doubly especially when you'd forgotten you owned it, is a great pleasure. This will vary depending on where you live, but your local public library could be an excellent resource for fattening your iTunes collection. Within the past month, I've checked out Brian Eno's *Ambient 1: Music For Airports*, Jack Johnson's *Sing-A-Longs And Lullabies For The Film Curious George*, the Ramones' *Rocket To Russia*, and some old Elton John I'd finally decided sounded really good -- for example, the original Mick Ronson guitar-driven version of "Madman Across The Water" tacked on to, not the album by that name, but *Tumbleweed Connection*. Tucson's library system allows me to browse the collection and select and reserve CDs on-line, choose the branch at which I want to pick them up, and receive email notification when a disc is ready. You might want to find out what music and services are available at your local library. Hey, you're paying for it ... Ryan Anthony An independent Internet content provider P.S.: Does anyone know where the extended version of Todd Rundgren's "Bang The Drum All Day" might be found? All I can find is the radio-friendly edit. (If I were to ask for it to be emailed to me as an mp3 file, would my benefactor and I get in trouble with Bearsville?) When I finally get my hands on it, by fair means or foul, it will swell my hoard of all-time favorite songs to 241, of which ten are by XTC, the Dukes, or Andy solo.

Message-ID: <103296.64871.qm@web86115.mail.ird.yahoo.com> I just wrote a long response about the Arctic Monkey thing but I just deleted it because I honestly don't care enough about them to worry too much. Stephen, you're a good bloke I respect your view and I accept your point about being 15 (which I am farrrr from being). We will have this discussion in 5 years and everyone will say 'Arctic who?'.....I never thought I would hit a raw nerve by discussing the Brits, I wish I hadn't watched it now. Can we get back to talking about proper music. I agree about the Joe Jackson thing by the way, it's rather good and a surprise after he said that he didn't want anything to do with pop music anymore. Andy seems to be talking to a lot of people at the moment, has he said anything about a solo LP ? he must have boat loads of songs ready to go. Has anyone seen Mr Moulding? Love and peace to everybody NT

Message-ID: <DC0C9A3F-9FBF-4B75-A7C3-D01DCB14D5E6@austin.rr.com> Pfolks, (the "p" is silent) I have the Flexi-Single (managed to bend it un-taping it from the magazine, rendering it unplayable at the last 30 seconds -- arrggh) bought new with the magazine, and mine certainly didn't come with a cover. It was just sort of stickied down. That cover is somewhat likely to be the result of some "desktop publishing." Okay, now that I've contributed to Chalkhills, let me get down to the right proper business of self-aggrandizement. The Dukes of Simpleton are playing our Semi-Annual gig this month (you'd think booking would be easier considering the great turnouts we've had, but hey, that's Austin for ya) at Hanover's in Pflugerville. (the "P" is silent) (just NE of Austin proper) Their website is here: http://hanoversaustin.com/ and a link to the official poster, as designed by me (more of that nifty self- aggrandizement) is here: http://dukesofsimpleton.com/Calendar.html We'll be playing an assortment of crowd-verified hits, as well as two new ones, so if you've seen us before, it's not quite the same old show. All I'll mention is that we've let this thing go to our heads, and attempted the impossible, which is why 9 months later, we've only got two new songs to show for the effort -- you'll just have to come see for yourselves. However, unlike many people on here, I just don't get the 'amazing sense of humour' thing that many attach to him. Yes, it was informative and yes obviously Andy is an intelligent person, but the endless rubbish puns, sexual innuendo's and weak play on words just remind me of an embarressing uncle trying to hard to impress. Sorry to sound grumpy but I prefer it when he's serious to when he's trying to be funny.

More details at http://blog.myspace.com/xtcfans, but keep in mind that, because of the potential for confusion due to various unsynchronized shifts to Daylight Savings Times this weekend -- no doubt part of a plot by some cabal out there -- host Doug advises that, because the site automatically adjusts to your time zone and tells you the time of the show, "the best thing to do is to tell people to check the site first thing when they wake up Sunday morning and see what it says." If you miss the live interview, don't worry -- Doug will post the interview as a podcast after the fact. Salut! -Todd
