Like them or not, ZZ Top is the one band who's been together longest
with the original lineup without breaking up or changing personnel at
any time. Since 1970, the same three guys. The next closest is Los
Lobos who got together with the same four guys as today in 1976, only
adding a saxophonist several years down the road. Or U2 in '78, same
four guys. ZZ Top are not without talent though, Billy Gibbons has a
pretty distinctive guitar style that Mark Knopfler attempted to
replicate and the result was "Money For Nothing." Gibbons also had a
pretty cool garage rock band in the mid to late 60's called The
Moving Sidewalks, who had a few regional Texas hits but never broke
nationally, though several of their songs pop up on compilations,
especially their closest thing to a national hit, "99th Floor," which
was on volume 1 of the Pebbles Anthology back in the 80's. You know,
on vinyl.

Hi,

Many moons ago I had a magazine called SUDDEN APATHY. For Issue One (Xmas
1987), Chris Twomey, a friend of mine, interviewed Andy Partridge. As I've
just put the archive online, thought you'd like the links. We sold a few via
Little Express and the Virgin Megastore in London.

Find out more on the site here:
http://www.trifle.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/1.html
And the issue in question here:
http://www.trifle.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/2b.html

We went to an XTC & Friends convention in the early 90's in the US where
Chris was guest of honour. I actually took some video at the time as well
if you are interested.

Cheers

Friends, Romans, Guitargonauts!

Lend me your ears!

I know that Apple ad about iPods providing the soundtrack to my life
is a bunch of corporate pish posh, but I had to smile when walking to
work through a sunny playground full of kids ready to start their day
when my shuffle feature called up "Playground" as if by magic, as if
the universe knew what I needed at that moment. Rehearsing for the
big square world, rehearsing for the playground. Perfect.

What you don't get with the shuffle of your collection is cross
fades, that delicious magic as one song melts into the next. Or you
get a little snippet of the song before or after, a taste to remind
you of the proper order of things. No one does it as well as XTC.
I've always wanted to do crossfades with my own music, and I've
finally pulled it off on my new CD. "Bone Daddy" is finished and
ready to roar into worldwide distribution and domination. OK, maybe
not roar. More like a squeak. So if you fancy some home-made fun from
an edge of the empire XTC fan family man, drop me a line and I'll get
you a copy. Other artists I like include Nick Drake, the Beatles, the
Clash, the Decemberists, and Chalkhills' own Mitch Fiedman.

Find it on Apple iTunes:
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playListId=281421818

Bone Daddy has that "Gotta Write a Song" song I wrote at the Ray
Davies songwriting course that was making the rounds on YouTube
recently:

cheers!

Hi:

Over at the XTCfans MySpace site (http://www.myspace.com/xtcfans), the
song of the week is "Roads Girdle the Globe."

If you want to know which Finnish film inspired Andy to write the
song, or how he "burnt the cheese away" from the major 7ths in it,
check out the XTCfans blog site at http://blog.myspace.com/xtcfans.
