The absolute beauty of the digest format is that A. It doesn't flood your inbox all day long with posts about people's naval lint and how they heard a band that sounded like a band that one day might be half as good as XTC if heard through a coffee filter while standing in a laundry mat with red walls on a tuesday. B. If I had Harrsion in my ear every day, I really would crack up and kill everyone at work because it would be a constant reminder of what idiots I work with and for! C. Anything worthwhile is worth waiting a while for. D. The digest comes just as fast as the posts to it dictate. Around the release of WS we were getting 3 or 4 a day which is rough on the moderator but was fun reading because there was actual XTC content in every issue. E you want immediate posts there is already a place you can get em although I suspect many of the members there are less interested in discussing XTC than they are in supplicating their own boredom and sense of isolation AND the XTC content is thin at best. Mole Oh and actual XTC content: I recently got a copy of the 1992 Big Takeover article\interview part 1 with AP which is a bit more in depth than the usual tiger beat fluff and had some great insights into the choice of producers for Nonsuch. I may have been aware of this in the best but certainly never had it painted as clearly as Ap did in the interview that Steve Lillywhite and Hugh Padgham were all lined up to produce Nonsuch and this only fell through at the last minute because of time overruns on Steve;s wife's album (Kirsty MacColl). Can you imagine what Nonsuch would have been like had it been produced by the big drum sound twins? Boggles the mind. I am still looking for a copy of the second part of this interview if anyone has it please let me know I'd like to get the two halves transcribed and up to John for hosting here Fascinating reading!

No real XTC news or discussion here...just wondering for those that
purchased the Apple Box if the sound quality is significantly better than
the previous editions. I would doubt it but you never know...
Just picked up Elvis Costello's latest "My Flame Burns Blue" and was
surprised to see "The Juliet Letters" had been reissued. The former album is
very good and the latter album is also extremely good particularly the bonus
disc. It's about as far from rock as you can imagine working with a string
quartet. I'd personally like to see EC tackle some of these with the
Imposters.
I noticed that for itunes essentials they've selected 25 songs from the
band's career. Interetestingly there's only 1 song ("I'm the Man Who
Murdered Love") from Wasp Star and "I'd Like That" from Apple Venus.
I'm curious if anyone knows if the band was asked for their input on these
"essentials". They certainly focus much more on the singles
(understandably).

I don't know anything about the mechanics of having a list sent one way or the other, but I do know that if I could choose freely and at all times to have it which ever way I like it, then I have nothing against the option of an individual mail list. However, since things do occasionally get "hot" around here, I would probably generally opt for the digest form, because I get 50 mails a day already, and I don't want 100 when I can have 51. What I'm trying to say is that I prefer the digest form, although I recognize its weaknesses. If it were indiv. mail *only* and it got to be too much, I would unsubscribe -- which I don't really want to do. I would also immediately stop enjoying it if it became a forum-style thing like xtcidearecords. (Speaking of which, all of the Chalkhillers I spoke to at "The Meeting Place" last year said they were not regular forum users because keeping up with the forum was too complicated.
