My own experience with XTC is this: I used to be a metal fan and then I started listening to 97X and heard "Dear God" and after that World Party and the Psych Furs and the Cure...and it continued.. (back when "alternative rock" actually meant that) Well after that the metal went out the door and I went on a rampage to buy all things XTC. Now here it is 15 years later, I got a little stake in that station, and we aren't Clear Channel owned (still family run) and we can get away with playing "Science Friction" whenever we like! I think this may be my 3rd or 4th post. That said, something happened yesterday that I believe you can all appreciate. The background... I live near Seattle, Washington. I have a daughter in 7th grade. In 4th, 7th, and 10th grades our public school students must take a standardized test called the WASL (Washington Assessment of Student Learning). In the near future, passing the 10th grade test will become a requirement for graduating from high school. The foreground... My daughter took the 1st part of the test yesterday. Last night at dinner I asked her how it went. "Okay". (the typical teen/pre-teen response). I wanted more info, however. So I asked what the subject of the test was. "Writing". ( don't you just love the one-word answers?!?). I finally dragged out of her that the assignment was to write a letter to her teacher about a person she would like to meet, nicely organized with all of the whys and wherefores thought out. OK. Now we're getting somewhere. Who did you write about? "Andy". Andy who? "Andy from XTC". Whoa, says I in my best Keanu voice. She explained to me how she would like to meet and talk to him because she enjoys the music but knows nothing about him. Plus, she said, she knows how much the music has meant to me over the years. It would be an understatement to say that I was a little choked up at that moment. Being the big macho guy that I am, I successfully hid my feelings and listened on. Later, I let her know how much this meant to me. She could have chosen Avril Lavigne, but selected Andy Partridge instead. Of course, the credit has to go the the parents (ha). Steve

I'd like to get some ideas about where to start with their catalog. Speaking of Roxy Music, I work with a lady whose brother was in a Boston-based band called The Atlantics (this was in the late 1970's/early 1980's). Anyway, The Atlantics opened for Roxy Music in the early 1980's. Isn't that fun? (Her brother's other band, a synthpop group called Ball and Pivot, opened for 'Til Tuesday, Cyndi Lauper, and INXS, which is almost, but not quite, as fun.) Speaking of INXS, another band whose used letters to form its name was XTC. -Ben

After shaking my hand, vaguely remembering me from when we had previously met (ahh!) and introducing Harry he told me that the hold- up was down to the Japanese, but that they would be available before the end of June. He also said that he was really proud of the new Peter Blegvad collaboration and he feels that we should all enjoy that. He's very excited about the Milk and Honey Band release too. I asked him if he was revisiting past glories: `No, not really. I came here to try and buy a chair but its changed so much since we were here.' AP: `We're going to buy something for Harry to wear' DW: `Clothes are always a good idea' AP: `I was thinking more along the lines of flippers up to here' (pointing to the sleeve of his t-shirt). He's looking great, I think he's lost a few pounds and was wearing a white t-shirt and NO HAT!!! Andy's also grown a stubbly (and quite thin) beard which he referred to as `his Loudon Wainwright look' before congratulating me on my rather fetching goatee and signing an autograph. I love him...
