The track on which Andy worked with the Residents was
"Margaret Freeman," which is one of the 40 1-minute
tracks on the Commercial Album.

As I stated a long while back, I have my own
developing theory that Andy Partridge is somehow
otherwise affiliated with the Residents, perhaps even
one of them. Just listen to his vocals on "25 O'Clock"
from the Dukes to see what I mean.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot...

I saw the Residents live for the first time in Chicago
a few months back. It was an amazing show (even though
I still don't know who they REALLY are). I've even
posted a review of it at
http://livejournal.com/users/sevenzarkseven ... You'll
have to scroll down a bit to get to it though.

"I am a HUGE residents fan as well if
anyone has questions regarding Andy's work with them!"

I only know of one track..even the name of that escapes me.... what else is
there

The track in question is Margaret Freeman, it appears on The Residents
Commercial Album (ESD 80202) and Andy (as Sandy Sandwich) provides the
vocals.

Oh, and it's quite wonderful!

I wasn't truly enchanted with Fuzzy Warbles 1 & 2 so am selling them to the
first bidder. #10.21 each is what I paid and what I will offer you (I will
give a U.S. dollar price based on the current rate, once you've contacted
me). And yes, they CDs are autographed by Andy. Free shipping in U.S. -
outside U.S. I will give you a quote.
Also not too crazy about the new Becki Gregorio CD - and am willing to offer
that for the price I paid ($13). Shipping same as above.
PayPal would be best! Thanks.

Wotcher

You've probably all got this and know it already, but I happened to notice
the Old Grey Whistle Test performance of Statue of Liberty in the 77-78
section of this website.

Most enjoyable and quite good quality.

Hi all!

I'm new to the list, thanks to my husband, who's
recently turned me on to XTC. I can't get enough! :)

I have a question that I hope someone can answer. A
week or so ago, I snagged an XTC video collection (not
pre-recorded, but put together by the seller) on Ebay.
It's great! But I'd like to know whether there is
any kind of commercially-made XTC video collection
available. I've looked on Amazon.com and a few other
sites, to no avail. I understand they're rare as
hen's teeth!

Does anyone have any suggestions? FYI ... I'm in the
US and, if there is a video available, it would have
to be in the US VCR format.

Many thanks!

sorry about the potential cross posting...i know we're all on alot of the
same lists...

from erik @ the kork agency:

Hi you all.... As most of you know, Over the last 4 months I have been
booking a tour for Shriekback front man, Barry Andrews, in both his early
solo piano incarnation and his late night electronic act Stic-Basin....
Well... Boys will be boys and while climbing a tree, he had a bit of a
spill.... Enclosed is a picture of Barry's dislocated shoulder that as he
put it "hurts like fuck" The tour is postponed to an unknown time frame
(perhaps summer??) while our boy Barry is on the mend. I am still a bit
stunned that I am cancelling this....And that he was in a tree in the first
place.... Sorry for the hassle you all but you know how these things can
be.... Feel free to call me and yell or send Barry a get well email to:
stic_resource@hotmail.com
... Here is his heartfelt letter that he sent to me...

Hi Erik

-disastrous fucking news. This afternoon I foolishly fell out of a tree (don
't ask) and badly dislocated my (left) shoulder.

I was dazed and in a lot of pain and spent the afternoon in hospital.

I'm unsure when I'll be able to play properly again- certainly at the
moment it hurts like fuck to assume the piano-playing position. So,
regretfully, I'm going to have to pull the tour.

Fuck. I'm really sorry Erik, not least because I can see how much work you'
ve put into it. (If it helps to soothe promoters I enclose X-ray shot)

WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO MOVE THE WHOLE THING INTO MAY? I'm sure it's not as
simple as that but I still badly want to do these shows and I hope you're
still able to be involved. Let me know.

God this is shite.

radio sucks in America (don't want to talk about the war here, please let
it end soon), long live college radio. Spring of 1982, six months into an
eight year "career" in college radio (hey - it paid the bills, oops, nope,
it didn't pay diddly) I held the puny American single disc of "English
Settlement" in my hands. My first listen to XTC. Wow. I did listen to
Bowie and Tull (and Horslips! ) in high school. Is there a connection?
Dinna ken. I also liked listening to freaking Toto in high school. Go
figure.

I almost picked up "Black Sea" in high school because the cover reminded
me of 10cc's "Deceptive Bends". Ah, youth . . .

btw - thanks to whomever posted the link to the photo of Dave's
Rickenbackers awhile back. When I saw his 12 string I thought, wow, that
looks a lot like mine. Tracked down the serial number and wouldn't you
know it, they're both 1976 12 string Rik's. Pretty cool.

cheers.kah

I believe it's "Margaret Freeman" on The Commercial Album, other guests on
individual tracks include Barry Andrews, Robert Fripp, Debbie Harry, Lene
Lovich and Fred Frith(on more than one).
There's a very informative recent article on The Residents in the local
experimental music mag Signal To Noise. They have a website,
signaltonoise.com, I believe(If I'm wrong a search on Signal To Noise should
bring it up), you can subscribe, though in its hometown(their office happens
to be next door to mine) it's distributed free. Want to move to Burlington,
VT? :-)

To contributors to the "Chalkhills' Children" series, if you would like to
add some contact information (i.e. URL or email address) to your credits
listing on King For A Day, please email me at rjpa1@attbi.com.

Likewise, if any contributors have had a change of contact information since
submitting your song, please contact me.

Sorry for the extremely late notice but I just realized, when adding the
credits from the CC series, that I had offered up contact information for
the more recent contributors.

I should have ordering information listed in the next Chakhills.

Cheers,
Richard

If I rate ...

Wasp Star a 10
Oranges & Lemons a 9
Skylarking a 9
Apple Venus, Vol 1. an 8

and I think that ...

Wasp Star = Abbey Road
Oranges & Lemons = Magical Mystery Tour
Skylarking = Sgt. Pepper
Apple Venus, Vol. 1 = Rubber Soul

Which XTC should I buy next? I have the Senses
Working Overtime EP and the Making Plans for Nigel 45.

Reply direct, please.

Just a quick note on a sad bit of synchronicity on an
average Sunday in Honolulu. My baby daughter and I
were enjoying a relaxing morning with Skylarking on.
Just the sound of those crickets at the beginning is
relaxing, and hearing them in nature is all the more
satisfying since this album came into my life. We were
in a good mood, enjoying life.

Somewhere in the middle of the album I went to the
yard to care for our pet rabbit. Sadly, I found he had
died in the night. By the time I had dealt with the
family sadness and the burial, I returned to the house
in time for the last two brilliant songs. How fitting.
Did any album ever end more appropriately? I know it
was just a rabbit, but he meant a lot to my family.
The cycles of life will get us all eventually, but
it's good to have a bit of XTC in the mornings while
we are still around.

Jim
