Not quite as cohesive as Soft Bulletin. But damned good. "Fight Test" is a song that should have been on Bulletin. I can't get that tune out of my head. I actually love the synths and drum programming.(mind you i LOVED the "Bonham" style drums on Bulletin.) "Do you Realize" is very Lennonesque with that dreamy vocal effect Wayne seems to fancy of late. Just a wonderful treat for the ears. I highly recommend it to lovers of modern psychedelic music. Also finally picked up the Nines Wonderworld of Colourful album thanks to Chalkhills members directing me to cdbaby. Also tracked down the Japanese version of Properties of Sound. The bonus tracks especially "Doesn't Matter Anyway" rocks!! Very Macca/Beatles circa 1970. Just an awesome song. God knows why they didn't put it on the U.S release. Totally worth the money. Message-ID: <003f01c241bb$26cfd640$0f525d3f@johnjulie> Hi all, I was extremely happy today to find a mint condition VHS of "Look Look" at the Amoeba Records store here in L.A. for a whopping $15.95! I almost always go look for it in the event that it's there, and today it paid off. Does anyone know if the boys will get any cash out of the Virgin DVD re-release, if and when it happens? If they're not, I'm willing to investigate burning the video to DVD to trade the living shit out of with everyone so Virgin gets stiffed, here in the states at least. Also, a late theory on the U.S. sales of "AV1" & "Wasp Star". My thinking is that after the 7 year hiatus, it would have been much more commerically minded to release the electric "Wasp Star" first, to get fans old & new ramped & revved & rabid. Don't get me wrong, I love "AV1" and the true fans were there to welcome it with open arms, but hearing electric guitar and a beat you can dance to is a sure way to get folks to really notice you, so maybe they hurt themselves a bit in the interest of art for art's sake. Of course, that's just an observation, so take it for what it's worth and the point is obviously moot. Other than that, I'm still excited about being in London the same night that the XTC tribute band is making their debut and truly hoping I can drag my fiance' out for the show. Luckily, one of her best friends from here in the L.A. lives in London now, so if nothing else, maybe I can have them run off on their own and I'll go by myself. OH! Before I forget, I saw a CD today at Amoeba in the used XTC section that I'd never seen before. It appeared to be some sort of cover collection by an author or something - who's name I've completely forgotten now, of course - and the song it listed by XTC was "Rocket". The lyrics were all supposedly written by this guy who looked old on the photo on back. With that minimal set of clues, can anyone fill me in and should I go back and get it (if someone on this list here in town doesn't go before I do)? Any chance Becki will play down L.A. way so I can buy the CD in person? Out, JK

CDs are the shit, pardon my French. They have the music as it was intended for you to hear, and they have the cover art and album liner notes... all the good stuff. Ebay know this is a boot, because a second set was withdrawn by them shortly after it was posted there - which was a real pisser as I was bidding on it! However, looking at the track listing that Jackson mentioned I'm quite glad that I didn't waste my money as it seems to be little more than the Japanese Extatic boots and a handful of released tracks - there's nothing that he mentioned that has not been out before, that's for certain. I hear that Andy and Colin, via Idea are very carefully watching Ebay and other auction sites and have managed to have several boots and other illegal items withdrawn. Several people who have been trading on Ebay for years have had their accounts suspended in recent months so this would seem to be the case here. Shame, because until Idea get around to issuing Fuzzy Warbles this is the only way that many of us rabid fools (the same rabid fools who will go out and buy the 'official' product anyway) have of accessing this material. C'mon guys, do you really think that a handful of people selling bootlegs is going to cripple you financially? I'm also informed that Andy was concerned that I was selling boots myself through my (now defunct) This Is Pop site. This is not true, and I believe that he now knows that. Maybe it's time to remind him that the copy of the Acoustic Oranges and Lemons vinyl set that he owns was given to him by me! I understand totally that Andy and Colin have the right to protect their material and also the right to market the same in any way in which they see fit - but they will never be able to take on the bootleggers single handedly, and most of the people who deal in XTC bootlegs are hardly in it for the money - almost all of the new titles that have appeared over the last few years have been put out in limited runs by fans for trading purposes only. Ease up, boys and get some new material out. Maybe that way we wouldn't be desperately buying up anything that we can lay our grubby little hands on! Darryl.
