Compare/contrast Blur's "Parklife" and "English Settlement", "The Great Escape" and "The Big Express", "13" and "Skylarking". Incidentally, I seem to recall way back when "English Settlement" was released there being comparisons to "The White Album" (one journalist referring it as their "Green Album"). But my memory's not what it used to be, and it was a long time ago. Hope this helps Rory

I admit that this album is not on high rotation on my personal station
so i don't know the relevant tracks by heart. I know, i know... i should
but contrary to popular belief I _do_ have another life as well.
Several actually...
BTW: to call this euh... experi-mental album a "gem" is stretching it
a bit IMHO. One or two decent tunes perhaps but the rest is
electronic self-indulgence to the extreme. Not my cuppa at all
If you are looking for a real and relatively unknown gem perhaps
you should try the Harold Budd / Andy P. collaboration Through The
Hill instead. A bit arty-farty perhaps but the music is excellent.
PS: Many thanks must go to my new Japanese friend Nishimatu for
her awesome work on Virtual Terry. I love him to bits (pun intended)

You could tell that he came up with the story on the spot, which made it more interesting. I picked up a bit of memorabilia that I am selling on ebay now, including his new CD Star For Bram, which is great. He is playing again this Saturday and I might go see the show if I have time :) I loved Camper's whole career in music. They are just one of those groups that speak with their music. Anyway, they broke up shortly after Key Lime, but they are somewhat back together; at least in a different form. Victor, Jonathan and Greg all have been on the Cracker tour and they have sort of dubbed a joke name "Cracker Van Beethoven." They have been playing botch Cracker/Camper songs. In fact, I missed them 2 weeks ago because I was really ill, which is always a nice time to be ill (when your fav. band is in town)! Oh yeah, I know of Monks. The members have worked on SEVERAL projects together over the years. Each time I think I have everything interesting, something else pops up. XTC Content of the day: Stop talking about AV2!!! I am already dying in anticipation for it to come out. I have not even heard the demo's yet! No, really, I wish it would come out already. Especially because there is not much new stuff coming out that is worth buying. I already curious of their future plans after AV2. I wonder what they have planned. We all know AV2 was written a few years ago. Really, all they are doing now is the final mixes. They must have done some other stuff the past few years!

I think that the Beatles analogy is a pretty predictable trap for anyone to fall into as we tend to compare things that aren't as familiar to things that are overly familiar. It provides context. In defense of most critics (and those that believe the Sky-Pepper comparison is apt), I believe the comparison stems from both the way the songs run together, production touches and the fact that it's a concept album. You could probably compare it just as readily to Pet Sounds as to Pepper. Regardless, it's a great album. I know that McCartney tends to keep up with the music scene and wonder if anyone has read any interviews where he has mentioned Sky or Xtc?

I absolutely love the song XTC are mooted to be doing, and can someone
suggest to them that they get John Cleese to do that bit in the middle of

I recently received a confirmation that Owsley will be participating
on the upcoming Paul McCartney Tribute CD (I believe that it's some sort
of charitable benefit for cancer research). This is excellent news!
Owsley, himself, is quite over the moon about the opportunity to pay
homage to one of his biggest heroes! What's also nice, is that Owsley will
be producing/recording/performing one of Sir Paul's most popular songs,
"Band on the Run!" This is so cool! What an honour for Owsley! Below,
