The Music Wars" performance made me desire for more. My first XTC record was the Upsy Daisy Assortment, free, from BMG. This was acquired a few years ago. I just bought Oranges and Lemons... My God! What a great great great CD!!!! "Now, go back in time (mentally), close your eyes and imagine being 13, or even 16, and liking AV1? Be honest." Ah... no... too in to Siouxsie and The Cure and the like. I'm not sure I can even imagine that style in the 80's... it just doesn't fit the time. I'm older now... what is the point in going back to 13 or 16. I'll gladly face my 29-30ish self listening to "old fogie" XTC music. Actually, I've been having a hard time listening to top 40 (though I do like that Hoku song from the movie Snow Day). I remind myself of my mom... listening to Oldies or soft-rock stations searching for Seals and Croft or Crosby Stills and Nash... "No matter how much we love Apple Venus, we would probably not have bought AV1 and XTC would have not have made it this far." AV1 would not have been recorded if XTC had not made it this far. "I hope I am making sense to some of you... I am not saying XTC should compromise and do a song with the backstreet boys or anything." How about producing the Backstreet boys? "I just think Andy & Collin should remember what got them the fans in the first place and stop doing "Andy & Colin as XTC" albums" I think this is why Andy doesn't like the internet digest deal... I would bet my sweat that Mr. Partridge doesn't care whether his fans view AV1 as an.... "Andy & Colin do orchoustic" deal. In fact, I think some such sentiment has been stated. You just want to see the threesome as one again. Why stop there... Make them bring back Terry Chambers; I doubt Oranges and Lemons would sound the same if they had. Good bands tend evolve. In doing so, these bands will lose some fans and gain some fans. Inevitably, good bands die. When XTC decides to call it quits, its members will have left the world with some wonderful music that it can always enjoy. Be happy with that. Be happy you can appreciate the same music you liked as a teen. I was just worried that XTC would be a thing of the past. Though there is nothing wrong with them being of the past, I just feel they deserve more and have much more to offer than most other groups out today. It bothers me about their absents. The whole label situation was a real drag, and I am very glad its over and perfectly happy with AV1. In fact, "I'd Like That" is my favorite XTC song of all time to be honest. I have always love how long they have lasted. While other groups who started after them are having revival tours and getting back together, they are still making music (minus a few members). I don't think they should "sell out." I don't feel they should go backwards either. Remember, this is coming from someone who has not heard the new demos of AV2 so maybe they have already answered my call. I just don't think most teens would get AV1. However, as one of you pointed out, most teens did not get O&L or Skylarking either, so, I would agree, that it really does not matter. I was alone at that time being an XTC fan. There were a lot of XTC fans, but most people were into Heavy Metal and George Michael and stuff. So, I still like my XTC, Joe Jackson, Robyn Hitchcock, and really could care less, I just hope they get more hits, for their sake. They deserve to make some money. Weren't 6 of their albums made just to pay back the record company for court costs? As I said, I don't care what they do, I will still love it, as long as they keep doing it. Let me also say, I for one, do not think Andy is an "asshole" and have never met the man. I was commenting on a interview where I read he is pretty tough on the group and was pretty controlling when it comes to music. Then I went on to explain that me and him are very similar in that aspect because I am exactly the same way. All I can say is that no matter what, I will buy everything they put out and hope that AV2 goes gold. I still hope they will get with some of the other members and will go on tour. Regardless, I will still always be an XTC fan (unless they do a song with Celine Dion).

No XTC collection is complete without Miniature Sun, and I'll take you

Both share the Middle Eastern/Indian/Celtic atmosphere . . .I thought
Beating of Hearts too but that song just doesn't have the same feel as WIWY.

Tonight's episode of "Freaks and Geeks," which is about the beloved misfits' struggles in gym class, kicked off with a leisurely phys ed. humiliation sequence, with "No Language in Our Lungs" played in lieu of dialogue and sound, lasting about a minute-and-a-half or so. So it was a great showcase, even though it tragically occurred opposite a news break on CBS on the Alaska Air crash.... Are any music editors or other production people on that show in the Chalkie community, or even aware of this list? Normally I wouldn't ask, but the fact that it was "No Language," a relatively obscure tune, after all, indicates serious geek/fan potential here. BTW, "Freaks" is supposed to be based in the mid-late '70's, right? So, technically, using a song from "Black Sea" [1980] might be a tad anachronistic, but I'm not complaining! I was aimlessly flipping through the channels on my TV when I got to NBC and what should I hear playing but "No Language In Our Lungs" on the show "freaks and Geeks".I was speechless. I was crying with joy. But then, just as quickly as the moment came, it ended, but not without changing me forever. Kind of. Here's some more evidence to support the theory that Dave choked to death a while ago:on the back of Nonsuch, before the Ballad of peter pumpkinhead picture, you see 3 men eating and drinking and the farthest man the left is obviously choking because he is taking a large gup of whatever he is drinking to "Wash it down" and the two other characters are patting him on the back, and anyone who has ever read "Cristine" by Steven King knows that this will not stop someone from choking, so therefore, he would have died.
