Dear Group,
I am in need of your assistance. Is there anyone who knows where I might
purchase a copy of these 2 Andy Partridge bootlegs: "From A to Z" and
"Primer or First Reader, Volume II"? I am yearning to listen to more Andy
Partridge songs from back in the day. I can only imagine how many gems are
on those CDs. If I can't find these for sale, I would love to (handsomely)
pay someone to copy them for me. My e-mail address is evm111 (at) hotmail
(dot) com.

Thanks so much,
Erik Victor McCrea

Chalk all y'All,

I magine my delight when browsing FNAC (our hug Virgin-like megastoare
here in Fracen when I stumbled across a DVD in the music section under
the three-letter-heading of XTC!

It is called "XTC: Life Begins at the Rock: Live 1982" and the
packaging gives no idea of which concert it is comprised, only saying
that it is 'one of its last' in a brief bio which explains Andy's
breakdown and the fact hey never palyed again.

Equally depressing, it says the band was active between 1976 and
2005;; Say it ain't so, boys!

I've yet to give it a spin, but will keep you all informed of what I
think. Am I the only one to know of this? Is it even a an 'official'
release?

Reading this Digest makes clear there are plenty of XTC fans in
Japan. My condolences on the deaths and damage you've suffered in this
barrage of earthquake, tsunami, aftershocks, and fires. I hope none of
our Japanese Chalksibs has been directly affected, and I hope recovery
and repair, everywhere from fishing villages of the northeast coast to
downtown Tokyo, goes more quickly and smoothly than anyone could
expect.

Fellow Chalhillians,

I was cruising through our local big ol' record store here in Paris
(no not Virgin, thank god!) when what shoulod I see in the X's?

A DVD called XTC: Life begins at the Rock: Live 1982!

It contains pretty good fotage and sound of the 18 March, 1982 show,
very shortly before Andy hung it up fo rgood.

Does anyone have any info on this thiong? Is it an 'official' release?
I've had a bootleg of this show for years and years, but it's great to
see it with my own eyes...

Just reviewed the latest album by legendary English folk singer Jo
Freya and Chumbawamba's Abbott and Ferguson. It includes a very
different cover of Dear God. I interviewed Jo for the review about her
take on the song as well as well as XTC's appeal among folk singers.

Fellow XTC-ite Bill Sherwood shocked us Chalkhillians here in North Carolina
with the following info about Aussie friend Paul Culnane - an XTC comrade
and someone truly dedicated and devoted to a certain Swindon quartet/trio ~~

Nicely said, Dom. As good a summation of Paul's highs and lows as I've
read.

ChalkAll,

I was strangely quite moved by Paul's passing, though I only knew him
through the intertubes, and my experience seems quite similar to
Dom's: A quick affinity leading to shared conversations and music,
then uncomfortable informations dumps, lack of faollw-through,
frustration, embarassment and an eventual cutting off contact. Thorugh
all his apologies and irritating mood swings, I never doubted for
amoment that he was really sweet, genuine (if genuinely troubled) guy.
I feel a bit bad for cutting him off now, and I am sure I am not alone
on this list in feeling that way. Does anyone know what happened
exactly?

As for the questions about the 'new' XTC DVD, it is indeed the same
concert we were passing around not so long ago, the qulaity (video
anywyas) is better, b ut still of a very slapdash, 80's quality. The
sound ios OK, wortha play, butt he mis si terrible; IT is clear the
boys can't hear themselves onstage ANdy's mic is far too loud on
Colin's songs, leading to his harmonies drouning outt he main melody
and his little 'barking' interjections sounding like incoming gunfire..

Is it worth it? Paid about 18 euros and I guess I don't feel ripped-
off, however I don't think I'll be playing it al that often. It is
good to be able to see them 'live' so close to Andy's calling it a
day, and the 'new' (boy am I over-using the quotes today folks,
sorry!) songds from English Sttelemtn sound fresh and are well-played
(especially by Dave.)

Use your own discretion and cabveat emptor, as ever...

Not sure if you saw this. I've been following it since you posted that it
had rated a Dukes album in the low 90's. XTC's Drums & Wires - # 3 of the
greatest albums of all time. Not too shabby.
