Now they're back! There's so much to catch up on: Kevin and Becki's return, Simon's rant, and, of course, an XTC therapy session led by the one and only Dave in Detroit. (If you can get XTC back together, Dave, perhaps the automotive industry should hire you to drag the Big Three out of bankruptcy?) My big news is that, on February 10th, I'll be releasing my first "proper" album, "Class Dismissed." The XTC connection is minimal, but I do listen to XTC (a lot), and Mitch Friedman, John Relph, Simon Knight (who also co-produced over e-mail), Daniel Prendiville, Dean Zemel, and Jim Smart all get credits in the liner notes. I love Death Disco, Public Image Theme, Careering, This is Not a Love Song etc. Also the packaging of Metal Box. PIL had self belief and originality. But against perfect power pop tunes, the best ever cover version of a Bob Dylan tune, meandering summer's day folk, startling brilliant B-sides, some perfect albums, dub experiments, two excellent song writers, overwhelmingly creative musicians and the fact that their most recent songs were out-perfecting their most recent out-perfected albums, I think I'd say XTC. I could go on. And, I would love to hear an Andy Partridge solo album - ditto, a Colin Moulding one. Perhaps they could get those out of the way and then think about a new XTC album.
