'Sergent Rock' is featured prominently in the new film 'HOt Fuzz' which is
quite wonderful. Do check it out. The rest of the music isn't half bad

The main reason is, somewhat unfortunately, not an XTC one, but rather
Steely Dan.  Yes, while you may have to wait 2 more months, I saw them
last Wednesday in Bonn.  And I'll say this: Worth the wait!  Low-key
(show-wise) but the right key otherwise.  On a beautiful summer
evening and with songs from all of their albums except "Pretzel
Logic", the 11-piece Steely Dan lineup was in fine form and played an
excellent set for an interested and interesting crowd which included
everything from 20 to 60-year-olds.  The Dan boys are also showing
their age -- short and grey (if present) hair, slouch -- so that on
some of the songs (e.g. "My Old School"), you got a rather strange
feeling of anachronism, while others ("Hey Nineteen") somehow retain
their relevance but with a slightly icky touch.  I would say that the
groupie days are over for these boys.  (And the "period" skating
references were thankfully removed in the bridge.  I doubt either one
of them could skate any more to save his life.)

But they sure can play!  The band line-up is heavily influenced by
"Everything Must Go", while the set relied most heavily on "Aja".  If
you're interested, I can send you their set list.  (Mail me off-list.)

Like XTC, Steely Dan was long a studio band (whose singer had
stagefright), but somehow Dan decided to return to the road.  As the
case now seems to be for XTC, the two core members of Steely Dan were
long estranged before finding their respective ways back to each other
and to their band.  Thus, not *all* hope is lost in XTC's story, as
dire as it may seem.

Hey everyone,

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's new action-comedy, "Hot Fuzz," is
available to buy on DVD today in the U.S.  Of course, I went out this
morning and bought four copies -- one for myself and three to give
away.  It's a brilliant movie, funny and action-y and worth every penny.

Anyway, I started watching the DVD with commentary about 10 minutes
ago.  Suddenly, as Pegg's character enters a pub, the director says,
"And there's XTC on the soundtrack!"  Sure enough, there is was:
"Sgt. Rock (Is Going To Help Me)" is playing on the pub's jukebox.

Nice, eh?

Chalksters,

For Christmas this past year, I received a desk calendar of misheard
lyrics (from kissthisguy.com - check it out!). See if you can
identify the entry from July 30th: "The people that you made in your
image still believe in that chunky stew..."

Which brings me to an idea for a possible thread: Any misheard XTC
lyrics stories out there?

Just read an entire summers worth of geographical deviations of earth
mostly comprised of mineral calcite and I must say, you fellows
particuarlay Anthony do have an immense talent for waxing ad nauseum about
todo, tada and nanana. Enjoyed Belinda's tea and toast moment, nice when
those occur isn't it! :) Cannot believe burnedfart didn't know whom
Rodney Bingenheimer was and that after reading ten of these digesteds,
Harrison nearly fuckin dictionaric Sherwood only made me laugh once. In all
fairness though it was a goody and I need a new keybaord now I suspect.
Bloody root beer is going to be unpleasant to remove. But I digress.

All is grand here in the land of the horseless carriages. Life, work,
family etc etc etc.

Kid is growing like a weed and gives me no free time for things
XTCian. He does however enjoy a good Purple Burt session. Looking forward to
some good times introducing him to Helicopter and Scissor man.
