If you want to know which song Andy was trying to play when he stumbled upon the guitar pattern for the song, and how old he was when he left school (and why), check out the XTCfans blog site at http://blog.myspace.com/xtcfans. Please be upstanding for the Mayor of Simpleton. -Todd

Message-ID: <000801c73429$d7c342b0$800101df@STEVE> Hello Fellow Chalksters, I stumbled across a program on BBC1 last Sunday night called "The Kings of 70's Romance". Despite what the title may have implied, it was actually a program about musical idols of the 70's. Rather than concentrate on The Osmonds, David Cassidy, Bay City Rollers etc, it instead focused on the singers who made the more mature women swoon. Amongst these was a young singer-songwriter by the name of Gilbert O'Sullivan who I remember from my youth for such songs as "Nothing Rhymes", "Get Down" & "Clair" (the best song about babysitting ever?). Anyway, it transpired that young Raymond (for such was his real name) composed many of his early hits in his garden shed in Swindon, equipped with a piano and a drum kit. I just thought it was another pleasant reminder of the debt that popular music owes to garden sheds in Swindon! Yet another Steve signing out.....

It's not too often you hear XTC on the radio nowadays and even less often that you hear something other than The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead, The Mayor of Simpleton or Dear God (at least in the U.S.). Just had to share that with all of you. It sent shivers down my spine. It's like a koala crapped a rainbow in my brain. - Capt. Murphy "Sealab 2021"

So I started writing songs for a London fanzine that never actually existed. All the songs were supposed to have been available as cover mounted flexi-singles between 1976 and 82. The fanzine, naturally, never sold a single copy, and all of the songs are supposed to be recognisable pastiches of the bands and performers who were around at that time. So here are four songs on MySpace. Not including my XTC one, although I'll replace the current batch in a few weeks and put that on with some others. Title: Ellis Island. Hope you'll get the other references too. If it ever gets commercially released I will, of course pretend that it is an artefact, rather than the truth, which is that it was recorded with Robin Hitchcock/ Soft Boys/ Vibrators/ Katrina and the Waves/ House of Love producer, Pat Collier between September and December last year. The newest posting on the site is the first part of a multi-part audio interview with Andy about the making of the Fuzzy Warbles set. You can stream the interview or download it to your favorite digital device. You can also find postings about how to order the set (featuring a free download of "The Bland Leading the Bland"), and a cool animated promo for the set, especially created by designer Andrew Swainson. -Todd If you have the same ideas as everybody else but have them one week earlier than everyone else then you will be hailed as a visionary. But if you have them five years earlier you will be named a lunatic. -Barry Jones, politician, author (1932- )

They released a covers album in 2005 called MUSICRADERS. The first song on the album is "The Disappointed". I haven't seen it mentioned here or on the site, but I think it's a great cover (as all the songs on the album are). The song starts off in double-time, punk style but then halfway through returns to the traditional tempo. I think they've done a marvy job. Anybody else here appreciate the Beat Crusaders? I wonder if Andy's heard their cover.
