[small voice] I totally love ELO. and I have Xanadu to thank for
that.[/small voice]

Because "Turn To Stone" is one of those gulty pleasure that I'm not at all
guilty about, much like "Too Much Time on My Hands" by Styx - as they are
in my estimation genuinely perfect pop songs. The kind I learnt to
recognize by listening to the compositions of Andy Partridge (and, I am
happy to say, at an early age, Colin Hay). The funny thing is, I guess I
just haven't heard enough of it, but if Jeff Lynne is trying to make
Beatles music, he's a galloping failure. (Then again, who knows where the
Moog fascination might have led, had the Four stayed together somehow?...)

That also said, Lynne should stay far away from XTC in the same way that
Brian Eno and Paul MCCartney should never work together, nor should
Timbaland and Tom Waits, nor Andre 3000 and Scott Walker. Just because
it's wonderful doesn't mean it should be combined.

Don't bring me down,
Jemiah

>From Harrison:

Now, granted, times change, fashions mutate, and 1967 was an
altogether lighter and happier year than 1970, when suddenly
everybody felt the need to turn in dreadful sludgey-drudgey "heavy"
blooze wankage, so some consideration has to be granted for the
times, but I'm damned if I'm going to concede that the guys who did
"Blackberry Way" were *improved" when they put out the utterly
unlistenable "Looking On."

Also, The Move kicked The Idle Race's ass all over the field.

Me: All this debate about Jeff Lynne producing XTC? I doubt that Andy or
Colin would be interested in it. His "sound" is a bit too overwhelming
distinctive as it is.

As to Harrison's comment I like all of The Move albums but Lynne and Wood
were unbeatable on "Message from the Country" and, yes, the first ELO album.

As much as I loved "Apple Venus" it did remind me a little bit of, well, ELO
with its use of strings although I thought that as with everything XTC it
had their own unique sound throughout the album.

Hello Everyone,

I noticed the mention of the Beatles....

>"New" Beatles album soon....
>''Love'' November

The reason for this new album is that it's attached to the Cirque Du
Soleil presentation by the same name. I guess before George
Harrison passed on he started a collaboration with Cirque Du Soleil
and this is the completed result.

Here's a link to the cirque show:

http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/CirqueDuSoleil/en/showstickets/love/intro/intro.htm

I have to say this really struck my imagination and hope one day to
see this show.

I can't say I know a whole lot about ELO other than I like a few of
their songs but I have to agree with Jon Rosenberger. I can't see
Mr. P letting someone else take control of his music anymore. I
wouldn't call him crotchety ....maybe particular.

It sounds like Christmas listening to people describe getting their
Fuzzy Warble packages. I have expect to see snow on the ground. :)
Well once these other bills go away I will get to experience that
feeling too. I will look forward to that day!

Enjoy life as you can,
Cheryl

Well, Mandy Moore's already done "Senses Working Overtime," she might
be a better choice, she can actually sing and has a brain in her
head. Air Supply are passe though, they've been releasing an album
every two years on independent labels since 1987(when they had their
last hit) to satisfy their 100,000 odd worldwide hardcore fans like
my wife. I state emphatically I'm still NOT a fan of theirs, but
their loyalty to their fanbase beats the heck out of Andy and Colin,
and I find their attempts to be hip kind of cute because they're the
least hip band you can imagine, going back as far as '84 doing a
rather sugary cover of Springsteen's "4th Of July(Asbury Park)" and
on their recent albums attempting political commentary and
Lennonesque psychodrama, with a sound that resembles the early 80's
Moody Blues more than the Air Supply I knew and disliked in college.
Apparently main songwriter Graham Russell's been in therapy lately,
it's improved his songwriting somewhat. Here's a modest proposal: Air
Supply and America join forces, and Jeff Lynne produces the whole
thing. Leave Andy out of it, he'll just gag and run screaming for the
Uffington hills.

In response to a inquiry about the new Fuzzy box
(volume 7,8 and bonus disc with box), I'm in Canada
and it cost about $75, plus an additional $15 in duty.
I love free trade! Barf. I would guess US charges
might be about $60.

It's a handsome set tho. Nicely put together and it
was packaged well too, nothing came loose or dented.
The stickers are almost the size of a jewel case
insert (with minor cutting around the edges, not
cutting the actual stickers it fits!) although I would
like the bonus disc in a real case, not a cardboard
sleeve. But that's nit-picky.

BTW, I love ELO. But Jeff producing XTC wouldn't be
good. Imagine XTC sounding like the Beatles sounding
like ELO.

Also, as much as I hate linking to myspace, ELO fans
should check this out:

http://myspace.com/bleuleo

Also also, I've compiled a handy list of all XTC
videos that can be found on youtube (I think all of
them!) Crappy quality sometimes but at least you can
watch 'em:

Sorry if this has already been posted. Was searching for the Duke's
videos on YouTube, (they're both there - Albert Brown with the Sooty
and Sweep Cameos cracked me up), and found this stylish little ad
for the Fuzzy Warbles Collectors Album.

Hi Jamie. No, 'Love' is the soundtrack to a recent Beatles collaboration
with the Cirque de Soleil. Check out www.beatles.com for more details. The
Grey Album came from DJ Danger Mouse, who remixed the vocals from Jay-Z's
The Black Album and the Beatles White Album. After around 3,000 copies were
distributed EMI issued a writ and had the album banned

Just received my big well-packaged package of Fuzzy Warbles from the UK
yesterday (Wed.) here in Lincoln, Nebraska, and I was wondering how quickly
it was getting to everyone else.

>Just curious...

I paid approx. $67 for the set.

Worth every penny. The album is really nice -- large and sturdy with
room for all eight volumes, plus the Hinges disc, the little sheet of
album cover stamps and the booklet. The booklet is a nice, one-time
read of Andy's history of home recording -- a little too technical,
but interesting nontheless. Have yet to listen to Hinges -- that's
going to be tonight's activity. Initial impressions of Vols. 7 & 8?
Two of the more consistently better discs in the series. Not a lot of
experimental stuff. The thing that blew me away with Andy's talent is
that Vol. 8 contains two little songs, one a thank you song for Wes
Long (whom we all know from here) and another a birthday song for
someone named Karen, that are better than a LOT of regular songs from
other artists.

I was shocked at how quickly it was delivered. It was sitting at my
doorstep on the 25th, the day BEFORE it was supposed to hit the
stores...
