Last time, Thom wrote thusly:

>>>Is anyone else hoping, HOPING that Ape House makes the upcoming
Fuzzy Warble set available in a way that allows you to buy it sans
discs 1-6? I want to be able to get all the goodies, last two discs &
extra disc without having to shell out the cash for the entire thing.

Let's pray that Ape & Andy see the light as this may make me go Ape
S*** as well as reconsider future purchases from the site.

Crossing fingers in the desert,

Couldn't agree more, but I also seriously doubt it will happen. I *really*
want to continue to support the band, but this bonus 9th FW cd - on the
heels of having to buy the Apple/Wasp box set for 2 tracks last year - is
really too much. (I've bought every incarnation of the Apple/Wasp cds so
far, by the way, but I'm going to draw the line at the series of 13 7"
singles that comes out this fall.)

It's great to have fans that are such rabid completists, huh? :-{

Don't worry, I also got worried about this. The announcement about the
Collector's Album at APE does make it sound like the extra stuff is
only going to be available in the box set. So I contacted Steve at
APE/Idea. He assured me that those who have been buying the FW's all
along would not have to rebuy them in the Collector's Album.

It seems they're still working on a separate package for those
who've already bought the albums and once all is revealed, it won't
disappoint.

Hello Chalkhillsians,

I am selling a set of Hello! CD Club CDs from 1993-1994 that includes
Andy's EP with "Some Lovely", "Candy Mine", "Prince of Orange" and
"It's Snowing Angels" on it. I thought some of you obsessive
compulsive completists might want be interested in that (and, um,
hopefully bidding it into the Stratosphere so I can finally pay off
my credit card balance from the early 90's...)

Thanks in advance for not spazzing out on me... it certainly is
on-topic!

Waiting for you to get there. It's never too late to get into XTC (and
here I was thinking I was a super latecomer, only becoming a fan in 1989.)
Chalkhills is an awesome list and I hope the recommendations, debates, and
general zaniness are pleasing to you. Sit a spell.

The picture that accompanies this news article defines "tossers". It's
kind of awesome. What isn't awesome is the caption that describes them as
"defunct art-rock combo XTC". I'll get back to you once this blood-red
mist of rage clears from my eyes. (Unless the band is now officially 100%
over, and no one saw fit to tell me.)

Thanks for the shout out, Cheryl! Though I can't claim to be the most
travelled XTC gatherings attender, as a couple of my co-attendees including
Kathleen Davis, organizer of the Southern California gathering, also
attended the convention in Swindon in 2005, so they beat me out for most
travelled.

But all I can say is, over on the XTC Idea forum, the Swedes are trying to
organize a gathering in Stockholm. And if I can find a way of crashing it,
I'm there!

Hi folks;

Just changed jobs so I was off the 'hills for a couple of weeks, only
to have my first digest on the new account bring back a great memory
for me. Ben Gott was talking about the Atlantics from back in the
day.

Back in that same day, I was a singer/songwriter/bassist for an
NJ-based powerpoppunk band called Continental Crawler, mostly famous
because our drummer (Mr. Jim) became the drummer for the Misfits circa
their Static Age sessions. Because of him, our 45 goes for like $30
on eBay these days, which gives me huge chuckles. Anyway, we did a
lot of shows with groups on the level of the Atlantics, the Romantics,
Dead Boys, and so on. It was cool to hang with those folks as we all
collected our $20 or so bucks each from the crap clubs we used to play
at. In fact, you were lucky to get anything at all from Hilley at
CBGB's, but we did it for the love of the music.

Thanks for the memory jog, Ben.

Mike

I wonder what that would be like. I wouldn't bet on it happening :)
Anyway, I was the interviewer, and it was great talking to Todd, and great
to hear what he said about XTC. Was trying to get him to say more but he
*does* always mention them and he had Esquivel and Space Ghost to plug...

Chalksters:

Well, you all know how I like expanded editions and anniversary honors,
etc. Well, I've started to put priorities on these things, mainly because
I had learned that a double-disk reissue of TOMMY by the Who had actually
taken something away from the first reissue of the album on one disk.
First off, I was drawn to this thing because it was giving us the original
mix of the rock opera, this time by Townshend, and additional outtakes and
occasional extra demos of tunes not included on the original album, but it
took away something so incredibly important--the libretto booklet!! Not
wanting to be so excessive, I, therefore, hav to be a little critical about
this forthcoming "box" of all the FUZZY WARBLES albums and it being the
only way that we collectors will get the last three volumes (actually, two
volumes and a "mystery disk"). Now, I think that most of you know how
closely I've stayed to this reissue campaign, supporting it beyond what
most other fans would have done. So I must say that it is a lot to expect
of us to go out and reorder the first six albums that we bought, signed by
Andy himself, just to get these last three disks, and I'm talking as one
who really wants badly to complete his set with these long-anticipated last
two volumes, at first disappointed that Andy was not going to give us the
actual 12 volumes that he had originally planned to give us. I guess I can
understand that part of the decision, because of numerous complaints by
some on and off list of so much filler. "Bring it on", cried I, as one who
hoped to see even more very rare XTC tracks showing up amid the mostly
Partridge demos. I am still looking forward to somehow getting these last
two FUZZIES with the ninth disk, and I really hope that, despite the fact
that I'm sure the packaging is absolutely fantastic, I'd be giving up way
too much to become an owner of this set! I'd be betraying my promise to
myself that I not have so much excess--multiple copies of things, etc., and
I think I'd be doing myself out of some terrific releases yet to come with
Andy's current collaborative work with other artists. At least we should
be given the choice of buying the big ol' box (a great choice for those who
didn't bother with the FUZZIES the first time around) or a smaller package
of just the last three disks, also in perhaps a nice decorative and
collectable package. I'll now keep tuned to the DIGEST list to see if any
feedback has been given on this issue, and I'll make my decision well
before October 16th. Believe me, I'm an XTC obsessive, but I'm also
looking at my other fascinations and wondering how I'd be able to "have it
all" and am seeing the idea of reissues as not so much on the top of my
list anymore. Just what do we call "definitive"?

Eegads, and where *IS* the RAG AND BONE BUFFET material? Now, those would
be well worthwhile to add to my selection. When I heard of yet another
collection of XTC rareties being offered in a box set, I thought that,
surely, RAG 'N' BONE was going to be among these, along with live material
and other things not yet given to us, but *NOT* this!
