On the contrary Don, I thought it was generous of you to share the
story of your terrible tribulation, and particularly the circumstance
which led to your hearing loss.  I cannot begin to wonder how I'd deal
with such an event - being robbed of any of the senses, as the
result of a cowardly act as you describe.  If it's any consolation, at
least we're not talking Beethoven here.  As a musician, you can take
solace that Brian Wilson suffers the same affliction, and this isn't
the first time another musical genius, our AP, has had hearing
hassles.

That story from Don was leavened by the delightful report from Cheryl
about her kindergarten experiments with XTC music.  Of course, none of
us here will be surprised that the music was a success with the kids,
and it sounds like to touched base with a couple of other fans along
the way.  Well done!

These are but two examples of why I get a buzz out of the community of
Chalkhills.  Warms the cucklodes of your heartybold!

Been a while, my bruthas and sistahs. I hope you're
all swimming in it! Hmmm... unless you don't care for,
or are allergic to it; in which case I'd avoid it like
the plague. Also, if you're not skilled in the art of
swimming, please don't attempt to lest ye drown in it.
Man, this is complicated.

Deep breath... ahhhhh.

Have you heard the band Midlake? I'm a big fan. They
remind me of, well, dozens of other bands I like
without sounding like any of them. There's a serious
70's full band thang going on, with touches of Belle &
Sebastian, Grandaddy, some slight - if you listen it
will come to you - Beach Boys, Sun Kil Moon, even a
bit of a Wilco vibe. Hell - you check 'em out and
decide for yourself. I'm certain there's a great site
for the new album "The Trials of Van Occupanther,"
though it eludes me at the mo-mo.

One of the songs (title escapes me) on Robyn's forthcoming album
entitled Ole Tarantula (due early October in the states) has a
songwriting credit to Robyn and Andy.

Hello again

One thing I did not clarify in my survey request that I would like to put
out to everyone is that if you think this is to much of a task for you to
complete or just don't want to go to all of the trouble completing all five
sections, I would take your rankings of the albums only if you don't want to
do the other parts of this.  Having to sit back and view their entire career
album by album may not be the most fun thing for some people and I
understand that.  So, if you can give me section one, I would appreciate
that a lot-- anything else is an extra bonus for all.

Well, XTC are threatening (or at least considering to offer) to make
their back catalogue available in 5.1 Surround Sound.  Contentious,
yet exciting.  If they do it, I hope it's to be made available on
DVD-Audio (I suspect more individuals have DVD with such a facility).
It might sound beaut...

But if it's only on Sony's SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc), consider
that it's an expensive investment to get a unit to play it?  Has
anyone else noticed that those initials also represent those of Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle?  He who wrote "Sherlock Holmes".  Get out yer
magnifying glass...

And crikey, weren't the recent remasters such a wonderful revelation?
They were pretty good!  How much more do we really need?  How
empowered is the human ear?

And, do I spot the comely milk-maid coming along ready to grab the
last ounce of milk out of the udder?

I'd rather some new music if you please.  Record it in your toilet, if
you can afford it.

Hello people of the collines de craie,

Being a 'Hiller has its advantages in so many ways.  Over the years --
now 7 or so -- I have learned about so much new music via this site,
and much of it has been fantastic.

A friend helped me download the song "Partridge" by the Anderson
Council, and I must say, it sounds great!  Really promising!  I plan
to buy the CD.  But maybe they should call the song "Pete Partridge"
or "Partridge Ham"; there are at least as many Badfinger elements in
there as XTC.  Not that I'm complaining...
