I have exchanged a few emails with Lily in the past week and she, apparently
not following up on her Idea Records posting, still did not know the name of
book, 'Song Stories.' So I mentioned our common link (60 pages apart) and
she said she was off to Amazon.com to buy it.

Beyond that, I like her music. Nice instrumentation, interesting vocal
stylings and um... she's beautiful! (If you haven't yet:
http://www.lilyfraser.com/)

My apologies to the people who have ordered King For A Day XTC tribute and
not received. I got divorced, packed up everything I owned (not minor - it
was a 4300 sq. ft. house) and moved. I am setting things back up but, for
those that owe money to the IRS, tax time is upon us (one month's worth of
gray hair in one week).

I promise to get things printing, copying and shipping in a few weeks. I
promise.

Cheers,
Richard

Here in Sacramento we have two competing "progressive" radio stations; one of
them is the local Air America affiliate. That station often plays topical (or
not so topical) protest type songs in place of commercials during program
breaks.

So imagine my shock and delight when I heard a familiar martial drum beat and
sure enough, "President Kill" rolled out of my van radio ... on AM even!

Cool not only for exposure for a non "hit" XTC song, but hey ... royalties
for Mr. Partridge.

Like I said ... Niiiiiicccceeeee!

Why is this list digest only? There are a lot of interesting posters
here but I think there would be a lot more frequent conversation if
Chalkhills allowed people to receive individual emails rather than a
digest only. Conversations could grow rapidly rather than having to
wait another 2 weeks for the next digest.

I'm sure there were good reasons for going digest only when Chalkhills
launched. But Mr. Relph can't we please have a digest free option for
Chalkhills? This list used to be awesome and now it seems to be
dying.

Funnily enough, here in Australia there's already a singer called Peter
Murray. He's one of those pretty boy over-earnest singer / songwriter
types, and his albums are both inoffensive and popular enough to have gone
Triple Platinum here.

Basically this means not only is he bland enough to be the soundtrack for
your K-Mart shopping, it also means your old Auntie Mavis has probably got a
copy in her CD collection, which you desperately tell yourself she bought
because she likes the music, and not to gaze longingly at the cover as she
opens up her Wonder Annual.

Just a warning - make sure you buy the right one or you'll be sorry. Aussie
Pete is easy to spot - all his covers look like 'Carefully Posing To Give
The Effect Of Looking Casual' Levis Commercials.

I herewith state for the record that I have retyped
all 130-some track names on the *King For a Day* CD. I
finally got fed up with seeing the track titles and
artist names sardined together in the "Name" column
in my iTunes library. Now the titles are in the "Name"
column and all artist names appear under "Artist," as
God intended.

If you write for cable TV, I've got an episode title
for you: "Mr. Monk and the iTunes Library."

Seeing all the artists' names in alphabetical order
begs the question: Is one of the contributors Chris
Messolesta, or Chris Mezzolesta?

Mr. Harrison Sherwood will be pleased to know that in
my iTunes library, he is alphabetized between Hank
Williams, Jr., and the Heardsmen.

(Point of explanation: iTunes alphabetizes artists by
first name rather than surname. I know what you're
thinking: You'll never be able to find Ford Madox Ford
or William Carlos Williams in your spoken-word
collection. The software does disregard "the" in the
artist column -- but not in the song title or album
name column!)

Back to Harrison Sherwood's place in my alphabetical
list of artists. You might ask, who are the Heardsmen?
In the Howard Shore-scored 1996 movie *That Thing You
Do*, they're one of the bands. You might also ask, how
can I have Hank Williams, Jr., in my library but not
Hank Williams, Sr.? I have both of them! But the
father is never "Hank Williams, Sr."; he is always
simply Hank Williams -- so he comes first,
alphabetically and chronologically and in every other
way. He's a hundred floors above Junior in the Tower
of Song. Sorry, Harrison, but you have to rub
shoulders with Bocephus.

My Christmas/Hanuramakwanstice rant is
three-and-a-half months late, but it's out. I wasn't
able to incorporate any references to XTC this time
(there were three last year in my
fiftieth-anniversary-of-rock-and-roll essay), but I do
pay tribute to Lalo Guerrero, who died in 2005 after
creating music for eighty-eight years as effortlessly
as you and I sweat. Another of this year's topics: The
Baby Boomers, who began arriving in 1946, are about to
revisit "the sixties" whether they like it or not.

If you'd like a copy mailed to your real-world address
(or your lawyer's address, if you're wary of
stalkers), email me off-digest.

Chalk Holders,

Does anyone have an MP3 of Complicated Game they could send or direct me to?
I know it's on I-Tunes but I'd like it in MP3 format. I am happy to send
you either a complimentary XTC Bumper Sticker, or an MP3 of Andy & Dave
doing Strawberry Fields Forever in exchange.

And while I am on the subject of Stickers here's the new address to the
sticker site if you are one of the few fans out there who hasn't already
treated themselves and would like to get a couple. Maybe you need one for
your new BMW 760i? Oh, you have a Hyundai? No problem they make any kind
of car look great. Happy Motoring!

Well my recent trip to the English Lakes was eventful, in that when my
younger (8 year old) son heard Greenman come on the car stereo, he promptly
started to sing it (word for word). It turns out to be his current favourite
song and he's been humming it to himself ever since......and has requested a
copy for his 9th birthday next month,

obviously a boy of taste ;-)
