Yes, many CD releases from the early years of the technology have this problem where the reflective layer of aluminum would separate from the substrate. I remember hearing reports of this in the mid to late '90s. So much for "archival" quality. Unless it's actually falling apart, it shouldn't harm the CD player; might be worth giving it a spin to see if you can pull the audio off, if it's not too late already. Although when they were first released companies were touting about how they would last forever, they don't. By the way, if you put on "Little Creatures" it will, indeed, be a unique sound experience as without the silver backing there won't be anything for the laser to bounce off of making for interesting bouts of silence. I had something similar happen with, of all things, a Mobile Fidelity Sound release. Yep, I do agree it has been too long since an XTC album. However the release of "Spiral', "Say It" and even the older "Where Did All the Ordinary People Go?" is promising. At least they're in the studio but I keep hoping, like Danny Phipps, that a new album will come along to spice up my life.

Justin Hayward, Rick Davies, Roger Mann, Billie Piper, Jack Dangers and Stephen Gibbons. Funnily enough Terry Chambers is listed there as an actor not a musician.
