Subject: "King for a Day" CD-3

There is now a limited edition CD-3 of "King for a Day" available on
import (UK, I believe). It's worth owning not only for the nifty
packaging (it comes in a sleeve shaped like a crown), but also because
it contains two previously unreleased home demos, "My Paint Heroes" by
Andy, and "Skeletons" by Colin. On first listen, I like them both.
Unfortunately, it does not contain the new version of "Happy Families"
that's on the 7" and 12"s.

I still hate the 12" mix of "King".

Subject: Proposed Survey

I am proposing a survey of Chalkhills readers. What I would like to
do is, first, come up with a reasonable set of questions, and
secondly, survey all the readers of Chalkhills and get their responses
to that set of questions. Here is a basic set of questions:

    Favourite XTC song
    Favourite XTC single
    Favourite song title
    Favourite lyrical phrase
    Favourite Partridge song
    Favourite Moulding song
    Fave Dukes of Stratosphear song
    Favourite XTC album
    Favourite album title
    Favourite album cover/artwork
Favourite 7" or 12" single sleeve
    Favourite guitar solo
    Favourite XTC producer
Most valued XTC recording (and why)
    Favourite XTC video
Lp track that should have been a single
Best radio station or program for hearing XTC
    Least favourite XTC song
    Least favourite XTC album
    Least favourite XTC video

So to begin the first stage of the process, I'll ask you all some
questions. Do you think this is a representative set of questions?
Are there any questions you would like asked in the proposed survey?
Are there any questions you would not like to be asked in the survey?

Some of you may recognize this initial set of questions from the
Little Express Readers Poll. I have taken out the "least favourite"
categories, because I don't like them. Arbitrary, perhaps.

In the second phase (NOT YET) of the survey, once a good set of
questions has been determined, I would like people to submit a ranked
list of their top ten (or less) favourites for each question. The
scores will be ranked with the usual 10 points for #1, 9 for #2, etc.,
and the results will be posted to Chalkhills.

If you have any comments or suggestions about any part of the survey,
please send them to <chalkhills-request@chalkhills.org>.
