Subject: New XTC Picture CD Box Set

Ok, I finally got my hands on one of the XTC Picture Disc Box Sets (I
think there's a Box Set Virus going around).  It's called _Collectors'
Edition: 3 Limited Edition Picture Discs_, and it's a glossy cardboard
box that contains three CD picture discs: _Go 2_, _Drums and Wires_,
and _Black Sea_, catalog numbers CDVP 2108, CDVP 2129, and CDVP 2173,
respectively.  The good news is that _Drums and Wires_ has been
remastered and now includes "Life Begins at the Hop"!  In fact, _Drums
and Wires_ is now more like the more recent XTC CD's in that the extra
tracks, "Life Begins at the Hop", "Chain of Command", and "Limelight",
are now in the middle of the running order, betweem the two original
sides of the LP.  So the track listing for the picture disc of _Drums
and Wires_ is as follows:

    Day In Day Out
    When You're Near Me I Have Difficulty
    Ten Feet Tall
    Roads Girdle the Globe
    Life Begins at the Hop
    Chain of Command

The _Go 2_ CD is now adorned with part of the cover art:

or something like that.  _Drums and Wires_ has the central portion of
the cover face printed on the CD, and the _Black Sea_ CD portrays the
four lads in their diving suits.

The actual booklets and other cover art is unchanged, and the new
catalog numbers only appear on the CD's themselves.  The track
listings on the glossy cardboard box do accurately reflect the
contents of the CD's.

Subject: Rag n' Bone Buffet in Plentitude at BCD

I was just on the phone with a clerk from BCD in Cambridge, MA. I had
ordered "Go 2" on CD and they are sending it out to me UPS.

She said they just got in a number of copies of "Rag n' Bone Buffet",
if anyone in the Boston area is interested in a copy, that's
where it might be found.

Their number is (617) 576-2211. They accept MasterCard and Visa.

They are on JFK Street in Harvard Square, near the Harvard Store
and the Mexican place.

I ordered "White Music" from them on CD. It came in in two days.
I like "White Music" a lot! Much more than I expected.

Subject: The fabulous Mr. Partridge and Co.

I am a big fan of XTC...I would undoubtedly have all of their available
import CD's were it not for the cost.  Thus far, I have Black Sea,
Big Express, Skylarking, the Dear God/Homo Safari ep, Oranges and Lemons,
and the King for a Day single.  I love all of them, and all of the other
music I have heard from them with the one exception of the Dear God ep.
Excepting the song Dear God, all of the other music on that ep just
sounds odd to me.  It doesn't sound anything like the XTC I know.

The only other thing connected with XTC that I dislike was my purchase
of the video of their singles from 81-86, or something like that.
It was, of course, a copy (although for some stupid reason I thought
that for my $30 or so I was getting the real thing), and I don't
know what generation the copy was, but the audio was completely
screwed up.  Totally distorted.  I would like to find out how to
get a good copy of this.

Great to hear of other XTC fans!  Looking forward to hearing from you!

I seem to remember that there was some discussion in "chalkhills"
some time ago about the track list on "Drums and Wires", and
whether "Life Begins at the Hop" actually appears on the CD
regardless of what the box claims.  So I thought I'd mention
the details of the "Drums and Wires" CD (Virgin UK CDVP 2129)
which is included in the recently released box set.

The actual track list is given correctly on the cardboard box
of the box set; it is as follows:

	Making Plans for Nigel
	Helicopter
	Day In Day Out
	When You're Near Me I Have Difficulty

	Roads Girdle the Globe
	Life Begins at the Hop
	Chain of Command
	Limelight
	Reel by Real
	Millions
	That is the Way

Which is the same order as the vinyl version (Virgin UK OVED 113)
with the insertion of "Life Begins at the Hop", "Chain of Command",
and "Limelight".  However, the cover of the jewel box, and the
enclosed booklet don't list these extra tracks, and they also list
"Life Begins at the Hop" in place of "Day In Day Out"!

Something else I noticed when checking the above - some variation in
the spelling of "Re[ea]l by Re[ea]l".  The jewel box and booklet
call it "Reel by Reel", the cardboard box calls it "Reel by Real",
but the vinyl sleeve and label call it "Real by Reel".

By the way, I've not seen any sign of "Rag 'N' Bone Buffet" in the
shops in the UK yet.
